Hogarth
(or Hogarth frame, hogarth moulding) General name given to (almost) any simple black and gold frame, normally a half inch to one inch width, with a square-ish profile and gold detailing. Although genuine frames from Hogarth's period are very rare there are many later versions and copies of the style. Often used on antique or antique style prints, particularly maps.
Hong Kong Oil
A term used to describe mass produced oil paintings on canvas which usually originate in China/Asia. Often used as a derogatory tag for any cheap and cheerful decorative oil painting. Usually painted by the prolific artists of the Two Trees and a River School of Art and sold on the doorstep to the unsuspecting public as art students' work at inflated prices.
