Common Moulding Defects

Upon delivery, and again before cutting, it is good practice to examine each length of moulding for defects. Common moulding problems to check for include:

  • Dents, chips, and scratches.
  • Warping/twisting along the length.
  • Uneven base (moulding will 'rock' on a flat surface.
  • Rebate depth variation along the length.
  • Variations/flaws in the finish.
  • Knots (wooden mouldings)
  • Rough finish (e.g. moulding has not been sanded smoothly.
  • Crumbly texture (often referred to as 'Weetabix' moulding - may only become apparent as length is chopped!)
