Common Moulding Defects
Upon delivery, and again before cutting, it is good practice to examine each length of moulding for defects. Common moulding problems to check for include:
- Dents, chips, and scratches.
- Warping/twisting along the length.
- Uneven base (moulding will 'rock' on a flat surface.
- Rebate depth variation along the length.
- Variations/flaws in the finish.
- Knots (wooden mouldings)
- Rough finish (e.g. moulding has not been sanded smoothly.
- Crumbly texture (often referred to as 'Weetabix' moulding - may only become apparent as length is chopped!)
