Re: IKEAAAARGH
The problem I find with mount only orders is the unchargeable time taken for the customer to settle on the colour and dimensions. If this is part of a full frame order then there are several areas where profit can be made justifying initial 'consultation'. 15 minutes to choose a mount for a £5 charg...

View both front and back of a picture
I have an original piece of artwork in for mounting and framing that has some artist's doodles on the back of the artwork that the customer would like to have visible for occasional viewing (ie doesn't need a proper moulding at the back and it will normally be against the wall). Would a piece of acr...

Part number 7595 says it is 95 <greek mu>, is this basically 95 microns? In a 20m roll and at £23.10 seems more resonable than having to spend £100+ on something much longer.

Re: WHY?
My customers must just be very nice, two to three weeks is never a problem some even say to prioritise others over theirs as they are not is a hurry. Of course the odd "must have it next Thursday" jumps to the top of the queue but that is rare.

Re: Framing multiple watch movements
I was looking at my chevron display today and it struck me that if the pieces are not valuable as Robo suggests then I could cover some foamboard with brushed nylon and velcro dot the movements. Need to speak to the jeweler, luckily his shop is opposite mine; I feel a deal coming up with Christmas a...

Framing multiple watch movements
The jeweller opposite me has a large collection of watch movements that he would like mounted and framed as a large collage. I'm guessing they will all be a different size an thickness. I think there will be too many to use the melinex - coin method. Any ideas?

Mount cutting hooking
Using a Keencut Artists Plus to free cut a multi-aperture mount I am getting very slight hooking at the start of the free cut. It is so slight not to really be a problem but I notice it. A brand new blade makes no difference. Could it be the bearings need tightening, there is a very slight free play...

Re: Frame over three metres long
I'm sure that I wouldn't beable to pin something of this size together and even if I could would it be strong enough given the leverage that 3m of moulding would exert. I'm thinking biscuit jointing maybe - but now we are into the realms of cabinet making rather than framing.

Frame over three metres long
I have a request for a quote to frame three 90cm x 90cm canvas' on strechers horizontally in the same frame. This is gong to make the final assembly about three metres long! I think that this is beyond me. 3 metre lengths of moulding once mitred are probably going to be too short and then there's ba...

Re: Pneumatic vs manual underpinner
Pretty much convinced to go for 199MXL, what sort of compressor do I need? Oil free? Will one of the small Bambi silent 15litre receiver models suffice?

Re: One for Roboframer (possibly)
I did a day's training on fabric mounting last year at John's workshop and that gave the knowledge and confidence to tackle most material framing that I am asked. From what I've heard many framers won't tackle fabric work so I actively advertise that I do and get a reasonable amount of work as a res...

Pneumatic vs manual underpinner
I'm thinking of upgrading from my manual underpinner (CS88) to something pneumatic. Any advice and guidance appreciated, is it worth it, are mitres tighter, are they reliable?

Re: FRAMERS FORUM LIVE EVENT - Well done !
Quite a drive in one day for me (especially with the rain on the way back) but well worth it. Just one request: could we have a longer 'Ask the experts' session it was facinating.

Making box frames
I was wondering what others use to extend a standard rebated frame to create a box frame for 3d objects? To date I have used fbox3 from Wessex which is okay but is only an inch wide and its rebates are a bit small. I was thinking of making my own equivalent to fbox by gluing together two pieces of s...

Re: Cutting Glass with Excalibur 5000 - Minor Problem
An engineer from Keencut was telling me that many framers often remove the clear plastic strip that runs alongside the cutter as it can become frayed and interfere with the glass wheel. Probably nothing to do with splintering glass but it reminded me of the conversation.

Re: chop service
Arqadia's minimum chop order for free carriage is just £50 and that's next day delivery. I use them all the time partially because I have very limited stock space but also it decreases my turn round time (and fewer Morso blade changes).

Joining wood mouldings problem
I am having a problem pinning together some mouldings with my CS88. On a couple of mouldings recently I have noticed there is a small gap in the underside of the mitres where the wedges are inserted. Standing the mitred mouldings on the bench before pinning all looks ok, it seems to be the act of in...

Both sides visible?
I have a mounted print in that has been signed by the regulars of a local pub on the front and back of the mount.
I'm looking to frame it somehow with both sides visible, what are my options?

Glassless frame for year planner
I have an A1 perpetual year planner in that the customer would like framed but without glass so that they can write on the planner. I'm thinking or dry mounting the planner onto s/a mountboard but what to use as a backing board: will foamcore be rigid enough or should I be looking a hardboard? For b...
