Re: Airlines in the workshop
Hi Fruitini, Not used omer, but used both 18ga brads and 23ga pin nails for fixing big thin mouldings. I have 2 separate guns, a stanley 18ga nailer and axminster pin nailer (25mm pins max). I have had them for years with no issues. You can switch guns without dropping air pressure so switching is e...

Re: Oak or ash tray frames
Hi Nolonstacey,
Centrado do one in oak.

As a bare wood, oak tends to look smarter, but ash would be cheaper. I am sure there may be other options at different suppliers.

Re: Advice Appreicated
Yes it can be done on a hand cutter, but the point is what is going to be better for your business. Given this is an offshoot and not the primary income maker, the danger will be that cutting 50 mounts by hand will take your time away from your primary source of income. I have found that efficiency ...

Re: My Reply to - back edge shredding
Just gave same advice on original post. Using sacrificial timber works for a number of different jobs, machining tenons and scribes being a good example. A165 is an easier fix than mouldings such as A168 which does not have a flat back edge. Cutting those with a good chop saw blade will give a bette...

Re: back edge shredding
I have had a similar issue with A165. Like prospero says, if they are to be painted making good is straightforward. An alternative is to get a thin sacrificial strip and place it against the fence. You will make an adjustment to your stop but that is easy enough. I have found that a strip will stop ...

Thay looks good. There looks like you may have a bit to sweep up just underneath. Do you have any broom handles left?

Re: Underpinning - How?
I took off my pads too, but i glue gun a bit of thin felt, (baize) on. So go give like a soft pad, but protects denting timber. Easy enough to remove a stick new ones if you get glue over them.

Re: Recommended Paint Spray Gun?
Hi Fruitini, As promised, here is one of my racks. They are all the same, this one was the latest and tidiest as this is used more to store before and after painting. I use a mixture of 15mm and 22mm copper pipe as i have nabbed bits from jobs. This one is 15mm and the redwood batons are 50mm by 50m...

I use 9.5mm bore hose with my axminster staplers. Never had a misfire with it.

Re: Recommended Paint Spray Gun?
Hi Fruitini, Happy to photo mine. May be Wednesday before i get down to take them, i have the excitement of ripping out a kitchen tomorrow. 😥 Like vintage frames says, those are a ideal start. For larger frames, i have one on castors, partly as i have been using linseed oil paint which requires sunl...

Re: Recommended Paint Spray Gun?
For frames, i use flat racks. That way, if you do get a run it would be on the edge and not the face and would be easier to deal with. But the more you get used to spraying the less runs you will get. I always reckon (especially with white on white with second coats) it is better to not start going ...

Re: Recommended Paint Spray Gun?
Fruitini - I wash my sprayer with soapy water and also then spray some water through just to clear it all through after as well. I have had to get another sprayer a few weeks ago as my other one is on site spraying walls and ceilings. On a recommendation, i have gone with a 3m accuspray run off my c...

Always used a flat bench. I used a sloped bench a few times when at a gallery workshop and found it awkward, but i guess it is what you are used to.

If you want wooden spacers at 10mm, i was literally about to chop these up for firewood. I had them on my chop saw when i remembered my coffee was going cold and had a look on here. 16583133528763725742492010953325.jpg By chance they are 10mm. You can have them for postage if any good? I am having a...

Re: Recommended Paint Spray Gun?
I have been back to houses several years after using this paint on jobs and it has still been fresh so my experience is that it is good. Was your sash window a hardwood? The tannins in hardwoods will cause paint to peel off which is why i use an aluminium primer for hardwoods generally. It may not b...

Thanks Dermot. The kitchen was finished 6 weeks ago and I have already got 6 new jobs as a result (not all kitchens) taking me well into next year, so there seems to be no slowing up of spending which is positive The colours were from B&Q home range, but i get them mixed by an independent company...

Re: Recommended Paint Spray Gun?
I use a spray gun mostly for kitchen cupboard doors, I have a Fuji spray system and have a homemade spray booth i set up when needed. Like vintage frames said, it is important to really clean the gun afterwards. I also have an extractor and an air filter to keep dust out. These were sprayed using th...

Re: Stiffening up the fence on my exising table saw.
How are you pushing the timber through? It is best to use 2 push sticks, one on top with forward and downward pressure. The 2nd is to apply pressure to keep it against the fence. The 2nd stick is removed a couple of inches before the blade, but by this time, the first stick will do the job.I have se...
