Re: Large jigsaw suggestions
It does help massively, thank you. Still gives me the heebie-jeebies but a bit less so. In any case I physically can’t take it in until I move to my workshop as I just don’t have the space here. So I could have some time to practice. Another option I’ve read about is mod podge. Is that something wor...

Re: Large jigsaw suggestions
See, I’ve never framed anything that large, or indeed a jigsaw.
How do you go about getting it into the self adhesive board? I guess flipping it over between the MDF sandwich but how to guarantee the pieces doing all slide off when flipping it?

Large jigsaw suggestions
Hi all, I had originally said no to this one before Christmas but they have come back asking for suggestions. Someone gave me a good suggestion of supplying self-adhesive board, with them to transfer themselves, but they don't want to do that. I still don't really want to do it as I think it is aski...

Re: Can I tell what quality mountboard has been used?
I have a couple of near perfect matches in my chevrons, but one is value and one is conservation and I honestly couldn't tell if the mount is cream core or not, depending on which sample I held up. Yeah, I accept is isn't really in my remit and it wouldn't have been on me to be responsible for the b...

Re: Can I tell what quality mountboard has been used?
Your job, as the framer, is to advise your customer about potential issues, and appropriate solutions. It is their job to decide what they want you to do, based on their priorities and budget. This was my dilemma. I feel I should have raised the mounts at the time rather than just "do you want...

Re: Can I tell what quality mountboard has been used?
Thank you all, all very wise words. (I love the idea little 'not me guv' hidden notes! ) In the original conversation, the customer was happy with the mount colour and presentation, but with the words 'I'll be guided by you'. They wanted conservation glass and solid oak rather than my cheaper ...

Can I tell what quality mountboard has been used?
I have some large limited edition giclee prints that state they are on cotton rag paper as a sign of quality. They are already mounted and have been sold as ready to go. I have only priced for the frames and fitting. I've just realised the prints have been taped to the window mount in several places...

Re: What extra ‘must have’ equipment would you recommend?
Thank you both, very useful information and definitely getting me thinking! I am of the opinion 'buy once, buy right' so I'm not necessarily out to spend as little as possible. If a better model is worth it in the long run I consider it money well spent. The grant also has claw-back clauses if I dis...

Re: What extra ‘must have’ equipment would you recommend?
Thank you all, some really good suggestions and things that I wouldn't have thought of, really appreciate it. I have to match-fund anything I ask for hence the £3-400 as I would then only need to find £150-200 but I am willing to go higher if it is worthwhile. I did look at some bigger ticket items ...

What extra ‘must have’ equipment would you recommend?
I have passed the initial stage of a business grant application, with potential funding to fit out my new workshop with some storage, signage and IT equipment. 8) Getting into the nitty-gritty of the paperwork, there is now scope to ask for funding for additional equipment. Probably £3-400, or more ...

Multimate bench - picture wanted
Evening all :) I have a multimate mountboard storage bench in bits in my hallway, but no instructions or picture. Does anyone have one that they could share a quick photo of please? I just have the frame and I want to see how it goes together so I can measure up for a new worktop. I bought it second...

Re: Fletcher tab gun - repairable?
Ooh, this is fantastic thank you! Sorry, I've been offline for a few days to reply. I didn't have anything suitable to make a new bumper with so I put it to one side and used my spare gun in the meantime but I'll be back looking at it this week.

Re: Learning time - what caused this damage?
Ahh thanks, I know very little about art itself so I just went by what the label said.
I will be OK to hinge it to an undermount won’t I? I’ve only looked at it so far so nothing is set in stone.

Re: Learning time - what caused this damage?
Thanks both, JKX - the board isn't MDF, it looks like Artbak or similar. Grey one side, brown coated on the other. No marking, mould or discolouration at all on it. The sealing tape is self-adhesive. Mark: The mount itself hasn't discoloured, just mouldy. And spots on the print. I am making the new ...

Learning time - what caused this damage?
I'm just making a new mount and rehinging this to freshen it up, it isn't going to a conservator or anything. It is a carborundum print from 1999 in its original frame. I'm interested to know what has caused the damage. The mount and glass are mouldy but I can't see any signs of damp. The backing bo...

Thanks, I've decided to keep the CS79 as a backup, as it will be typical if my 88 breaks down I'll regret it!

Re: Fletcher tab gun - repairable?
I've been fiddling and taken it apart and the only bit that is obviously broken is this nylon (?) bumper - part 8. I'm not sure what the bumper does, but would that cause the symptoms? I'm not saying I will be able to actually get it back together again, but Lion sell the part so its worth a try. 41...
