high end photographic print

I have been asked to frame a high end photographic print. could be worth 10K or so

Having not done anything like this before. i am a little nervous

The print is already mounted. so i have to frame.

what other precautions options should i be offering my client apart from museum glass etc.

should i be doing things like sealing the glass mount package together etc?

Unless the picture is going to an area that is plagued by the little black flies, then internal sealing isn't strictly necessary. I do it routinely because not only are there shoals of the little critters around here in the summer but I find it makes assembly easier.

I know how you feel, I had a customer who brought in a 6' cybachrome print from the US, several thousand dollars worth and cybachrome has a very high gloss which will mark if you even look at it.

My advice, don't let liquids any where near it especially water, if you use a spray cleaner make sure the photo is covered and or a long way away, atomised droplets can hang in the air and land on the photo some time after being used especially if there is also someone else working in the workshop. Don't even have any liquids on the same bench including tea and coffee. To remove dust don't touch the surface use a vacuum cleaner held off the surface. If you have to touch the print use cotton gloves.
Oh and hold your breath if you are leaning over the picture and don't cough over it.

Check the mounting to see that it has been done properly, conservation mountboard, adhesives and T hinges.

Use unbuffered mats/mounts! If you can't get unbuffered, you can use unbuffered tissue under the edge of the mat/mount to separate the mat/mount from the photo (courtesy of Hugh Phibbs)
8 ply mat/mount would be very nice!

What's your customers budget?
are they prepared to spend upto 10% of the value of the print on the framing?

they spent 55% of cost of print on framing

the print was actually mounted when it arrived, with cotton rag boards

I thought I charged a lot

Seriously though if it is already mounted just frame it as you would any other thing using good quality materials and I would seal the glass too.
