One of my friends has bought an engraver-cutter, to do some [not-framing-related] jobs for himself. He’s asked if I would find it useful for anything to do with picture framing. It will cut through up to 3mm thick, as well as cutting grooves. I’m not sure what the possibilities are for mounts or frames, so I’m interested to know what other people use engraver-cutters for. Thanks.

I often order engraved plaques for football tops, war medals etc. so it could be used for that.
I also occasionally get the mount engraved directly so that's a possibility.
I don't imagine it would be cost effective for me to get one for the amount of times I would use it, but if you have easy access to one it's worth having a play about it and see what you can come up with.

I used a laser cutter for some lettering on small oak frames that were used as wedding favours.
