Moulding identification/suggestion.

Post by Jon_Brooke »

I think this moulding might be mainline 010-0300 unfinished obeche turned on end and painted white to give a 17 mm wide / 35 mm deep frame.

My customer has brought in this sample frame that he uses to present oil on board paintings that he attaches to white backing board to give the overall look of a tray frame.

I don't generally buy mouldings from mainline. I don't want to have to buy £50 worth of this moulding to get delivery as I only need about £20 worth and I can't see anything else in their catalogue that I really need to make up the min order.

Anyone got any recommendations for something else similar - doesn't have to have identical dimensions?

I've looked at Wessex, Lion and Centrado catalogues but haven't seen anything.

If that's a flat moulding mitred on its side then the lip seems to be wider than the rebate is deep, which is odd. I think that's the way it's supposed to be cut and joined, like this one from L Juhl touchwood range.

Hi Jon

Take a look at Simons K/0857 or R&H A255 - 35mm deep but face is more like 21mm on a length I've got here. Sold as a tray so nice wide base for pinning. Could rip a little off on a table saw to bring down to 17mm.

FYI - finally identified the moulding as M0094 from Simons.

But thanks for the suggestions.
