Re: Glazing an oil
Thanks for all the feedback and opinions. I had those conversations with the customers where I outlined all the options and after nearly half an hour a decision was made. I even suggested that the couple take another few days to discuss the options available and to let me know. They only came back t...

Glazing an oil
I had an oil on board brought in over the weekend and the customer agreed to a design that included AR glass. Customer mentioned this to the artist who was quite adamant that it should not be glazed - so now every thing has been paused until I have a much more in depth conversation with the customer...

Re: Mounting 70 year old newspaper
Fistly I would consider copying the relevant section of the paper that is to be displayed, then put the original in a box for the customer to store safely. If that is not an option then I would probably encapsulate in Mylar/Melinex to provide the support and discuss with the customer floating or pla...

Re: A "BIG" Kashmir Rug
Did one of these a short while ago, customer did not want glass and wanted the tassels tucked underneath the rug - that made it a bit easier. I laminated mountboard onto foamboard and then sewed/microstitched the perimeter onto this. I also had to use quite a few microstitch tags throughout the midd...

Re: How old is your business?
I first began learning to frame in 1993 just as a hobby, took money for a frame for the first time in 1998 and eventually set up trading as a business in March 2010 after a change of career.

Morso donation
I have just had a Morso donated to me - according to the Danlist website it was manufactured in 1967! Unfortunately, it has not had any maintenance for quite a few years. This means I now have another project to clean it up and get it ready to sell.

That looks very effective. Just out of curiosity, how far is the front of the frame from the wall?

I use crochet thread of varying thicknesses depending on the item to be laced (don't like to use the word stretch with needlework).

Re: Suggestions for framing a wooden penny whistle
Without seeing the whistle my first thought would be to consider the use of polyester (Mylar/Melinex) straps. Once suitably mounted then a deep rebate moulding to avoid a box hanging out of the back of the frame.

Re: Workshop heating - wood burner?
Richard,
I have seen a woodburner produced specifically for commercial purposes and it was in a framer's workshop. The owner said that there must be a clear area around the burner when it's in operation. I will pm you his name and the name of the company he used.
