Re: Mounting a wavy photo
Artcare Restore is a Neilsen Bainbridge product, Wessex should be able to supply it. My hot & cold press Ademco 2125 is my best friend for norty curly wavy things. There is always a way to persuade things flat with care patience, trouble is conservation issues often stop you doing things that wo...

Re: Charnwood VMM Guillotine and underpinner
Charnwood is that the same as the Framers corner one?
I have had a Framers corner "Morso" for 10 years now, had to take an angle grinder to it to make it work properly - main problem was poorly engineered rebate supports.
They were so bad they actually touched the blades

Re: Backing Board
My thoughts exactly Robo :D Just think of your least favourite customer when throwing those darts, you know the one, makes you duck behind your bench and pretend your not there. (I'm sure we have all done it at some point, thinking "OMG not now, groan, please just go away" or wor...

Re: Backing Board
Excellent! we have a discussion going on the merits of backing boards. :D I take your comments on board, gladly I can report that, so far, in all the years I have been using Archival foam core, I have had no incidences of damage that puts the artwork at risk. I use Artcare foam board sucessfuly for ...

Re: Backing Board
My standard backing is Bainbridge Archival foam core 5mm. It's Acid free, inert, coated front & back in their alphamount conservation paper. I can hinge directly on to it, saving the time, expense & depth of another layer in the mount sandwich. Plus you can compress and bevel the edges when ...

Re: Moulding Search
Hmmmm, nope, not seen that one about.
Beyond economic repair? I guess there is extensive damage to the fancy bits then? (please excuse the technical jargon)
However the basic shape and slip should be easy to reproduce, if only moulding and casting wasn't so time consuming.

Re: Deep Rebates
Please do make your own, finding a container of a certain width is the hardest part. :P Last year I got my hands on a 2nd hand tape dispenser/wetter, (big red one in Lion catalogue) I used it for all of 20mins and promptly got my wee roller back out. By the way the roller is in fact the replacement ...

superb on framed pyjamas too I bet.
Seriously, that looks very interesting, just the thing for embellishing an oval or circle maybe . . . . wanders off towards the studio looking thoughtful.

Re: Deep Rebates
I concur, as a rule Self adhesive tapes are:- 1. more expensive. 2. more difficult to position. 3. environmentally damaging in their manufacture. 4. prone to become a sticky mess or dry & brittle with age. 5. not breathable. Gum paper tape is quick, cheap, easy, with a wee roller to wet the stuf...

Re: Surprise surprise FATG Awards
Yes, it is about time there was a reality check. Real awards for real people in the art & framing industry. :head: The best thing about the whole awards "do" was the framing awards, a superb chance to see the same print framed over 25 different ways. Such a shame the guild artists exhi...
