Re: How is this moulding effect achieved?
Most likely pine moulding or ash. If hand finished then the softer wood is removed with a wire brush. Do that while it is in length - a bronze brush if you’re lightly opening the grain and a steel wire brush if you’re taking out more. Prepare and stain in length and then cut and join. If you’re happ...

Re: Large jigsaw suggestions
Far, far easier with a self adhesive board - so you could always give them the board and get them to stick it down.WannabeFramer wrote: ↑Sat 03 Feb, 2024 12:07 pm Another option I’ve read about is mod podge. Is that something worth suggesting they could do before I get it?

Re: Ways to frame a sports shirt?
Plenty of places offer day courses in framing sport shirts - including myself. Might be worth looking into that as many of the youtube videos and so on feature products that can cause damage to shirts. As many of them are valuable due to signatures and so on, it is worth doing them right and getting...

Re: Large jigsaw suggestions
A two person job as that's always easier. You need two pieces of rigid board slightly bigger than the jigsaw. Being bigger is key as the middle of the boards will hold more firmly than the edges. Push gently on all four sides to bring the pieces firmly together and ensure all pieces are correctly in...

How many do you need? We have some stock of them but don't use them anymore, so you are welcome to them for the cost of the postage.

Re: framing silk scarves
Apologies if some of this is a bit basic - but thought it worth mentioning for anyone who hasn't attempted this sort of thing before. Don't underestimate the time these will take. Charge accordingly. Cheaper in the long run for you if the customer walks away and you not get the job, than it costing ...

I’ve double checked with John and its nothing nefarious going on. As suggested, likely something is just ticking up “views” due to a search engine.

Lots of useful and interesting information on this thread, but I think it’s probably run its course now and risks going beyond that. Hence I’ve now locked the topic.

Keep them as spares! If you chip a set on the Morso and others are being sharpened you might be grateful for a stop gap emergency alternative.

Forum Update
Hello everyone Quick heads up that John (Forum Owner for those that don’t know), will be doing an update on the Forum at some point around Christmas. Most likely on Boxing Day. It might take the Forum offline very briefly, just in case anyone sees an error message. I’m sure that after the rush of De...

Re: Oak supplier advice
Thanks Jo, Is their oak noticeably better? I wondered if all oak used for mouldings had maybe gone this way now My understanding is that the global market for oak has had a shift since 2020 so there has been some change in sourcing oak for the UK moulding market. Some is far more noticeably “pink” ...

Re: Looking for a company to make quantities of frames
As you don’t seem to be getting any leads on here, it might be worth contacting the moulding supplier (I’m assuming Mainline) and asking them if they have any contacts who could help you. They’re far more likely to have knowledge of a framing business with the kind of set up you’re after.

Re: Any way to ship a frame with glass?
You don't say where it is being shipped to, which would alter advice offered. For overseas shipping there are dedicated art shipping companies often based near major (and some minor) airports. They would usually be able to construct a crate to suit the framed piece and arrange collection and so on. ...

Re: Newspaper - Direct Contact Overlay
Nice bit of Optium Acrylic on there and Vintage is right, it will give the effect of it floating without support rather than the visual effect of the wrap itself.
