Although there are a few US based framers on here, you're more likely to get a good response on The Grumble (link above). Or any one of the many US based Facebook groups for framers.

Re: Question about mount board
It was made by Slater Harrison/Colourmount, who went out of business with no notice in January this year.
My understanding is that D&J Simons are now stocking Daler Rowney boards as alternatives.

Hello Julia and welcome You haven't said what kind of course you're interested in - general framing or something more specific. As you've mentioned a lot of hand-painted and gilt frames, this course springs to mind --> https://www.dermotmcardle.co.uk/videos Dermot (Vintage Frames) is one of our regu...

We feel your pain Justin - we did the same thing and have been handing tubs of powder to students for ages!! The pre-cooked stuff is fantastic.
As for the frame - that is a thing of beauty Vintage

Re: Truvue vs Artglass?
Couldn't agree with you more Justin. We swapped to ArtGlass many years ago for UV99, AR70 and AR99WW and wouldn't change back from them. The only Tru Vue product we still use is Optium, because at the moment nothing else compares. But if ArtGlass produce something to the same quality then we would s...

Re: Supply chain issue for linen mountboards
**nobody does it in UK but it’s a big thing across the pond. ..... ** more accurate to say "not many people choose to do this in the UK" maybe? Our biggest problem is not having a supplier like Frank's Fabrics in the UK where we can reliably get fabric in the same way you can order mountb...

Hi Rob There's always additional support via Skype as an option. As trainers we've done remote business consultations with framers based at a distance from us - and on technical helplines (Guild and Larson Juhl) we've used Skype to video chat and problem solve with framers around the UK. I'm sure Ia...

Re: Why do the blades keep separating?
Nice to hear from you, Jo. I spoke to you briefly when I was training with Ian Kenny. I've done the paper test (I'd forgotten about this - it was suggested to me by someone else a while back), and the result looks pretty clean to me. I hadn't made the connection :Slap: sorry! If you haven't moved y...

Re: Why do the blades keep separating?
Pretty much what Justin says. A quick experiment - move the head back the full way, lay a piece of paper across the the cutting area and gently make a cut through the paper. It should be clean and with no bearing up, no drag or anything. If it isn't then as Justin says, most likely the bottom blades...

Re: Methods to this fabric panel please?
A few stitches to support it, hidden around the edges. But if you space the glazing away there is the risk (and depending on how stiff the piece is) that the central section might want to pull forward. So if you use acrylic rather than glass then you could put it up against the acrylic and use that ...

Depends on the Museum and the collection I guess. https://archetype.co.uk/our-titles/conservation-mounting-for-prints-and-drawings/?id=435 Went to an exhibition of mounted and unframed works at the British Museum a few years ago, the mounts were in such remarkably good condition that they looked lik...

Served on the Guild board with both Paul and James - so very, very sad. Both lovely people and so knowledgeable. This is a big loss in so many ways.

Re: Double mounts, my brain vs the GCF
As a GCF Examiner either way won’t be a problem. Whichever version you prefer. As long as the measurements and reveal are accurate and the double mount is well cut, and glued together properly, then it’s totally fine.
I don’t know who told you otherwise but they may have misinterpreted things.
