Framing Education - Guild Weekend 2023
A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the Guild Weekend at Stratford-upon-Avon last weekend (Saturday 14th May) and enjoyed a fantastic day of education, networking and socialising with others from the industry. The event was hugely well supported with around 180 visitors as well as demonst...

Different hotel - same town. The Crown Plaza is next to the river and a few minutes walk into the town centre. The other hotel was a few miles outside town.

Re: Guild Weekend 2022 - Framing workshops (14th May at 10.30am)
That’s very kind of you to say so Mark. I think you may be confusing it with Framers Forum Live! that was held in a different hotel in Stratford some years ago. I remember that you and your wife visited that for the day on at least one occasion. This is a Guild organised event and the practical educ...

Re: Guild Weekend 2022 - Framing workshops (14th May at 10.30am)
A reminder that there is less than a week to go until the Guild Weekend. Open to Guild members as well as non-members, the Saturday is when most activities take place. We’ve been delighted with how many people have pre-registered and also booked to attend the Master’s Dinner in the evening. The dayt...

Re: Computerised Mat Cutter
Hi Richard Both Valiani and Gunnar who make CMCs will be at the Guild Weekend - Saturday 14th May - at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Stratford upon Avon. They will have their software there to demonstrate what each machine can do, as well as being able to talk through all the different kinds of machines...

Your local Wessex Pictures branch should be able to sort that for you and deliver it.

Re: Debossing a line around mount aperture
You must be a mind-reader! We had a week of Guild meetings in the office last week and that was one of the items up for discussion. We've got a wealth of technical information and expertise going back over 110 years. We have revisited some articles from the past, but we intend to delve deeper and fi...

Re: Debossing a line around mount aperture
Hi Steve I’ll have a word with the office and see what we can do. Next issue of Art + Framing Today goes to print this week, so we’ve missed that, but I’m sure we can find room in a future issue. 😊 The magazine is available to members as part of their annual subscription and to non-members through a...

Re: Guild Weekend 2022 - Framing workshops (14th May at 10.30am)
The Sunday morning we have the AGM at 10.30 - and this year we are electing a new Chair & Master of the Guild as I am at the end of my 3-year term of office. We have a bit of chat and final clearing up and then most people are away no later than lunchtime.

Re: Guild Weekend 2022 - Framing workshops (14th May at 10.30am)
Hi You're very welcome to register to let us know you are coming along - it will allow us to pre-print a badge for you and give us an idea of numbers. But you don't specifically need to do that. The workshops run from 10.30am to 3pm and they are drop-in ones, designed so you can arrive at a time tha...

Re: Stacked Frames
Thank you :D all my husband Alec's work. I will pass on your comments. He started as a gunmaker with Holland & Holland and that was where he discovered his love of wood finishing. When he moved into his family business of picture framing in the early 1990s, it allowed him to experiment by stacking f...

Re: Stacked Frames
Hi Justin Thanks for the comments :D and yes, Alec will be there! He's going to be talking about box frames and extending rebates as well as on hand to answer any other queries you might have. We might have to look at talking about working with magnets in a CPD article or maybe at the Guild Weekend ...

Re: Stacked Frames
….. and of course we do hand finish stacked mouldings too. Few examples below. It’s about working to your strengths and interests and as always in this trade, there’s always more than one way to do something. What suits one business model, won’t suit another. Yes, hand-finishing can start with bare ...

Re: Stacked Frames
Here’s a fun one using the Larson-Juhl Anvil range that is specifically designed to stack together. These pieces were collected during Ten Tors training on Dartmoor and we’ve attached them using magnets set into a beautiful piece of the old school stage from my High School. Quality bit of aged pine ...

Re: I'm looking for ideas for selling a large quantity of frame rims?
Why not just leave them as they are, rather than spending more time and effort cutting them down to a smaller size? You are creating more work for yourself on the off-chance that the smaller size will sell, that doesn't seem to make much sense. Particularly as you have so many to deal with. Why not ...

It might well be worth coming along to the Guild Weekend Framing Workshops.
Totally free to come along and not too far from London for a day trip. More information on this thread :
