Re: Dry mounting large photos

50 A0's, you need a motorised laminator. I'm still running a decade plus old DryTac JM44. Two people can flood coat a box of 1000x1400 KapaMount in around half an hour, one person in perhaps an hour and a half. Mounting prints, perhaps 50-100% longer. MB/key/90 looks a touch small for A0, but is sub...

Re: Mounting to diabond

I'd suggest a pressure sensitive adhesive from Drytac / Neschen. Apply to DiBond with laminator (or if small, a small brayer roller), then mount the WC paper to this. Clean the DiBond with IPA a couple of times before applying adhesive. If using PVA / EVA, I'd suggest lightly keying the DiBond surfa...

Re: Scanner advice

I'd suggest getting an x-rite colourchecker passport - you can create a DNG profile to help process the files - helps with some of the colour adjustments, though to get a closer control, the colorchecker digital sg is recomended (and only a quarter the price of a used A3 scanner...)

Re: Scanner advice

We use an Epson 10000XL A3+ to scan watercolour, drawings and photos. Will handle 300x400, and you can do 500x400 in 2 sections, and stitch in PS. I wouldn't use it for oils or acrylics, as the flat linear light source doesn't make them ring true to me. If you photograph, a decent 20+MP dslr, with a...

Re: Wiping dust from photographs

Canned air - I always started the air stream (can neither shaken nor stirred) on my arm, to get rid of any propellent, and to confirm the output pressure. Used this for many years on photographic film. Compressor - oil free, with moisture trap - again, start on arm for pressure control. Used this fo...

Re: cutting acrylic

I've found the SteelTrak to be much cleaner than a saw with acrylic. If I were doing more than the odd bit here and there, I'd buy/make something like a metal bending brake.

I think you've answered your own question. The subframe will act as the strength of the frame. How you fix the subframe into an aluminium frame would be my first question! Euro hangers can be manipulated to join aluminium to other materials. https://www.lionpic.co.uk/p/8295/Euro-Hangers-for-Alumini...

Had a client for whom I printed and mounted multiple shows - 40x60" prints on DiBond.
Used the courier costs to justify to swmbo buying a Porsche 928, because he could collect the work, 2 pieces at a time.

A Google employee posted about using Photoshop content ware fill to remove watermarks. Shortly after, they were an ex-employee. Re: Wisdom of buying HGP hot press

If the art is highly textured and or porous, then the HGP is great. If it is not porous then the process on to MDF will at best be very slow; if it is smooth and not porous you'll be better served with a roller laminator. I had both, but kept the roller laminator. Talk to Steve, he's extremely knowl...

Re: Source for 2mm Aluminium panels?

Hi Phil, I'm pasting a response I made on https://forum.luminous-landscape.com/index.php?topic=115493.msg952945#msg952945 You want drytac's facemount adhesive - more expensive, but dead smooth, and you can see if there are any faults / dust specks prior to adhering the print. 1) What type of aluminu...

6. Offer to cut a mount and to do the fitting - and charge it at your normal bespoke price - it increases your profit margin on ready-mades; I am a printer, not a framer, and am based in a reasonable sized city. A few times a week, I get request for prints to be framed - gifts, celebrations, becaus...

2 mug (6cup?) Stainless steel VonShef caffetiere, with Sainsbury's #4 Itallian blend. Keeps the coffee hot for half an hour, with no flavour burn, and minimal prep.

God help the bugger who takes it from the kitchen, where it lives, unless that bugger is me, in which case it was needed.

Re: Adhesive Roll

If you're not using a laminator, then twin release is the way to go - as you say, slowly and carefully. I've not seen a difference in the strength of the adhesive (with the exception of UtraTac, which I used a few years back). I've found that twin release also has a longer shelf life, before devolop...

Re: Adhesive Roll

I mostly run self wound pressure sensitive adhesive, using a laminator, but I do keep a couple of rolls of the PMDS25082 for smaller jobs. I always apply to the substrate first, as this is not "a moving target".I'll use it for times when I need to know that the adhesive is in perfect condi...

Re: Using spray can adhesives.

I'd consider getting a roll of adhesive from someone like Drytac. They do either self wound (like a roll of tape), or ones with silicon release on both sides. Cut off the desired size, and then apply to the mountboard with a squeegee, prior to cutting it down. No sticky flying glue waiting to contam...
