Re: how often do you get asked to print stuff for clients
Back on topic again, we do have an A3+ printer (Canon iX7000) which we do small amounts of work for if we get asked for a mount order with photo. Most of our work for this is type of printing is internet. However we have had some small successes (if you call it that) with restoring old images and al...

Re: Cassese Underpinner
On the bottle thing, Mrs D came up with a brilliant idea. She used an empty liquid soap dispenser (or moisturiser) and this dispenses glue very evenly. Each day you just have to flick the crust off onto the floor. Mrs D likes that. ![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

Re: Unpeel acrylic?
We leave it on until shrink wrap stage then peel it off. It's at that stage when you find the inevitable scratch and end up wanting to smash the whole thing on the floor. Not very laid back in our workshop. ![Evil or Very Mad ](./images/smilies/icon_evil.gif)

Re: Workshop heating - wood burner?
I bet you ae sick of sausages now then. Being a commercial framer you must be able to supply loads of offcuts which equates to loads of sausages. Dos he do cumberland sausages?
if so I might bring min up in a trailer instead of feeding my woodburner.
I can just taste them now

Re: Help with a Minigraf 4 Underpinner
As a Minigraf 4 owner I always use the machine at 4.5bar, but the compressor should be at least 6bar (100psi). As Jim says (Gesso & Bole) the push fit connections need to be trimmed square and pushed back in. My underpinner used to be leak free and the compressor hardly ever came on if the machi...

Re: Health and safety for workshop
My insurance only says that it needs to be removed from the premises. So the skip round the back is fine.... by me anyway.
I will definitely give the NFU a go next year.

Re: Workshop heating - wood burner?
This surprises me since I installed a woodburner some 18 months ago and it was a godsend this last winter. We are on oil so clearly anything to save some of that was useful. The woodburner was easy to install. I put my own concrete plinth in, designed my own flue to relevant standards and got the la...

Re: Health and safety for workshop
Unfortunately that is not the case. My insurance has whats called a "woodworkers warranty" which states all shavings, sawdust and other trade waste is swept up and removed from the premises every night Now this is my second insurance company and they have both insisted on this clause. The ...

Re: Seminars
Well of course the other option is for the pupil to provide his own stuff. That way only really interested people would attend the seminar. Every course I have ever been on (an that includes my Day Skipper) insists you provide a certain level of equipment. I for one would not mind providing my own e...

Re: Health and safety for workshop
This is alright until something goes wrong and somebody needs to claim against you. Your insurance needs to be watertight - and I have good insurance but there is a clause in the policy that says you must clear all the rubbish from the premises every night. You can immediately see that this is a get...

Re: Photos from old postcards
Thanks Alistair. I had a feeling that the publishers would somehow have a grip on them, even though they were produced well over 60 years ago and they were copies of the original image even then. There was achap selling his framing busiess on the south coast (Bournemouth I think) and he was offering...

Re: Pricing
I must admit I like excel and both my pricing programme and accounts are on Excel. I can't be doing with Management Accounting and all the other stuff - and as Alistair and Jon have said - while doing that we aren't making frames. My accounts programme is based loosely on the old Simplex D format an...

Photos from old postcards
Some years ago when we had a framing shop in town (late 80's/early 90's) we used to sell copies of old postcards of the locality and villages. These were blown up and sepia toned then framed ( I had my own enlarger and developing tank back then  I retained all of the old negatives and was thi...

Re: Autumn Fair - anyone going
I think it is fair to say that is the way the industry has moved. Art sales are dead here too and framing is the staple diet of most businesses, yet it seems odd that DeMontfort with their partnership galleries seem to be bucking the trend and doing very well. Talking to one of their sales girls a f...

Re: Autumn Fair - anyone going
Well we never go to the Autumn Fair and having looked at that floor plan for the Spring Fair, I don't think I will bother with that next year either. I only live 30 minutes from the NEC and I still don't think it worth the effort for a sunday morning. Might flog a few old frames at a boot sale inste...

Re: HK Oils, when will someone tell the public!
Here here Robo. Its not a framers job to be snooty over the art work. The customer brings it in and wants a good job done of the picture - whatever its provinence. We frame loads of HK oils. Got three in this week and I still make them look superb. In answer to Robo's post recently about ice breaker...

Re: Correct form of showing Title/Honour
As I understand it, the qualifications and honours form part of their name and as such should all be on the same line. Putting quals below the line gives them a life and significance of their own rather than attached to the name. Some honours like "Lord" or "Sir" go before the na...
