Re: I am thinking about starting a blog for my business.
Couldn't agree more with Geospectrum's above statement. My own business has grown in the last few years and this has been down to seeing an opportunity and just going for it. Very often, too much procrastinating and the opportunity has gone.

Re: Out of town
I have moved 8-10 minutes drive away from my previous workshop and my customers have been fine with it. I sent an email to my customers to announce the move and changed my details on my website and google. On a couple of occasions, customers have turned up at my old workshop and called from there as...

Re: Advice on electric Mitre Saws
Simple answer is no. Most mitre saws will not be accurate enough to get anywhere near decent corners. The expensive ones such as a festool kapex can be very accurate, but for the same money, you can get a decent morso. I have a dewalt 773 (about £200 at screwfix) and with an 80 tooth blade, is just ...

Re: Workshop tips
And of course, I'll be the opposite of that. I've tried having loads of pens scattered around the workshop but when I come to use one, I can never find one! Now I work on the principle of having the ONE special pen. Always to be treasured and always put down somewhere where I can find it. I used to...

Re: Workshop tips
If you have room for a big bench and can position it so you can walk all around, it can allow 2 people to work at the same bench easily. This will generally be a better solution than needing 2 separate work stations. I have an 8 foot by 4 foot bench which is also on wheels if i do need to move it. I...

Re: Chevron question
I use mounts in very few of the frames i make, I have rhe Arcadia chevrons, but what comes out when i do need them are about 20. Off whites, creams, solid core black, a couple of greys, dark blue and dark green. I will normally find this works fine and i don't end up framing a 3 inch square object w...

Planer thicknesser and dust extractors
Before i advertise elsewhere, i just thought i would see if anyone might be interested in these. I know a few have some woodworking machines so it may possibly be of interest. I am selling my axminster trade planer thicknesser (AW106PT) which i still used till recently. I have a Sedgewick machine an...

Re: Joining a Large Frame using Tapered Keys - For theFirst Time
Easiest way is start with fine diamond stone, which despite being fine will get a sharp edge and then i use a Japanese waterstone (8000 grit) to finish. Takes a bit of practice, but it is pretty easy to get a good edge.

Re: Joining a Large Frame using Tapered Keys - For theFirst Time
This is the much quicker, but not nearly so satisfying modern equivalent. 20210715_161035.jpg Done with the Festool domino so no skill required, but makes a strong joint, and handy if you have lots to do. Vintage frames the old traditional method with angles and hand tools to do it, just thought i w...

Very nice, easy (ish) as long as you do have nice sharp chisels and it is one of those jobs that is very satisfying.

Re: Big advice wanted for a big frame
Not sure where you are in Gloucestershire, but i could machine a moulding that length from tulipwood, pine or oak. I am machining timber at moment, so could run some off. If it were a simple profile, it would be quick to do. I am fortunate to have a 4 sided planer so you square a bit of timber in 2 ...

Re: Getting paint inside sight edge
No tape here, but i do wipe around the rebate with a cloth. If you start to use finishes like the liberon gilt creams, you need to give it plenty (24 hours plus) to dry. I always wipe around rebate after applying that as you can get tiny "clumps" that look like nothing but can get onto art...
