creased poster

Hi all, I was asked to frame a CD inlay for somebody without a mount. It's been folded for 30 years and has images both sides. I tried to iron out the creases but this didn't really work. Perhaps it needed more heat/pressure. I saw that linen backing was one way of doing it, but I'm not sure this wo...

Re: Framing 2 large pictures

I'm not sure if they have been rolled. I could flatten them out though.

I don't have a drymounting press but not sure this is ideal for them.

The foamboard option sounds ok. I can't picture what the slip you mean is though.

Cheers

Re: Framing 2 large pictures

Thanks alot. I understand that acrylic will be more but seems a better option. Is it non-reflective and are their different grades? How is a strainer attached to the outer frame? I'm guessing there are videos on this. Is it ok to just use a number of deep underpins on the outer frame? Cheers for the...

Framing 2 large pictures

Hi all, This has probably been asked many times before. I have been asked by somebody to frame some large photographic prints. 150x110cm and 110 x 86cm Having never framed something this size before, could I get some advice how to make these as strong as possible? Is it best to window mount somethin...

framing without mounts

Hi all. I am to frame some work without mounts. I have bought fillets to space the glass away from the art. 1. What is the best way of sticking the fillet to the inside of the frame. The fillets are non-adhesive. Wood glue could get messy imaginably. Can very thin strips of double sided adhesive be ...

mounting with very little margin

Hi all, was hoping for some help. I am framing a very curly panoramic print. I have very little margin to stick the photo down. The window mount only covers 2mm of the edge of the picture/paper. I want to stick it to the backing board in the most archival, non-destructive way possible. Without being...

Best quality strap clamps

Hi all, I'm having trouble with my poor quality strap clamps. The frames keep popping out under pressure. :head: Can anyone recommend what is the best to use?

Are 4 corner clamps more desirable?

many thanks,
Gareth

40x30" print. Perspex or glass?

Hi all, just wondering what peoples opinions are on whether to use glass or pespex for a big (40x30") frame? Where is the cheapest place to get perspex cut to size? Seems to be more expensive than glass. Is there a way of strengthening the corners on such a large frame apart from biscuits/prope...

one way reflective/ non-reflective glass

Can someone please tell me what the rules with these are please? I'm trying to frame glass plate photographs (wet plate collodion) behind glass. These are positive images on the surface of solid black glass that have been varnished. They are recessed behind the glass to a depth of about 3mm. I have ...

Re: Not sure how to frame this poster...

Here's one of them I did using the platform mounting, worked really well so cheers for that! Haven't glued it all yet, this is a dry run. Excuse the reflections.

Re: Framing a print to see edges

Ok, magic, got it now. Thanks. I imagined it was made from paper and pasted on only two surfaces. I don't have any starch paste. The guy at Welsh Framing supplies was a bit bemused when I mentioned it. What paper would you use to make the hinge by the way? I think I will probably add two more pass t...

Re: Framing a print to see edges

I can't completely suss out how to make the V hinge. It looks like when it's folded the adhesive will come in contact along the long folded portions of the V. Is it ok to use linen tape for them?

Re: Not sure how to frame this poster...

Not sure exactly what type of prints the 13x19's were but they were on heavy art paper yes. I was thinking of recalling them to hinge instead of tape them, perhaps unecessary. I know the guy well so any problem in the future and I can rectify. What sort of glue should I use for making the platform m...

Re: Framing a print to see edges

Thanks for the compliment David. :D I'm really pleased with how it looks. It's hand painted crimson to match certain colours in the print. Are there any tutorials on how to do those V W or Z hinges? Would you suggest I get different tape to make them? Think I will avoid foam spacers on this. Cheers

Re: Not sure how to frame this poster...

That's ominous to hear. I just framed seven 13x19" prints for a guy and I tessa taped them along 2 edges. :( Will it have a unwelcome effect on prints that big?

As for platform mounting. What is that exactly?

Re: Framing a print to see edges

Ok, so here's how it turned out!... Pretty pleased with how it's looking. Have only used two pass through hinges at the top of the frame with a quarter inch of linen tape attached to the print. The print isn't completely flat though, there's a slight bit of curl so it's coming in contact with the gl...

Re: Not sure how to frame this poster...

Pretty sure it's just decorative. I can get it flat by taping it down to board along two edges with tessa tape. Agreed that the black frames the image well. Was thinking of possibly using a black core window mount. Where do you see the finger mark? Top right corner where the light catches it? Was ma...

Not sure how to frame this poster...

Hi all, just looking for some input on this poster I've been given to frame. Not sure whether to use a window mount or not. Also, if I window mount should I show some of the black surround or mount right to the edge of the image. I know i's my descision but some opinions would be great! Cheers, Gareth
