Re: Framing a pastel
I'm interested in the techniques described here because I frame quite a few pastels, (mostly for my artist wife), and I have used strips of backing board fixed with atg tape to the board the art work is hinged to. This gives a decent gap assuming the paper or pastel board is flat, which is often not...

Re: Morso Bottom Blades
Speaking with all the authority of someone who has changed blades once on his recently acquired Morso, I can say that when I fitted the replacement blades they were binding on the lower blades, so I simply eased off the allen bolts and re-set them so that there was a fag paper between them and the n...

(presumably your wife hasn't noticed yet that the dining table has gone missing )
I do all the cooking so I just serve it up in front of the TV. She did say that the kitchen seemed to have got larger!?

Re: Mamual Mat Cutter
Hello Strokebloke I have a 48" C & H Advantage Pro that lives on a narrow custom built bench, ( translation - old kitchen table sawn in half and re-topped with a piece of 18 mm mdf to give me the length/width). It usually lives butted up to my main bench but can be moved easily if it is in ...

Correction - Prospero I've just re-read your message and realised that my last post was incorrect. I do have the markings you describe on the front part of the machine - I'll check it out. Typical example of should read twice write once.

Re: Realistic expectations?
I think perhaps only the "deluxe" versions had the engraved scale. My right hand arm has nothing engraved on it. I believe that my machine may originally have been imperial and the metric scale that is now fitted to it would not line up with the original dowels, hence their removal.

Re: Realistic expectations?
Thank you for these replies - I've been steadily trimming a length of 95 mm batten, making minute adjustments as I went along, and have a much improved result. To answer Robo's query about "fixed point of reference", my right hand extension does not have locating pins for the rule - it is ...

Realistic expectations?
I've just made a frame 1150 x 710 using a 76 mm reverse moulding. 3 corners are perfect, last corner has a slight opening on the inside. I've spent a lot of time trying to set up my Morso to achieve perfect results, ( hindered by the fact that the measuring scale is not on pins so I have no fixed po...

Re: Glass size/thickness
Thank you - a good guide that should keep me right on most things I want to do. 4 x 3 x 2mm glass is frightening enough, I just can't imagine trying to do anything with six feet of the stuff.

Glass size/thickness
I've made several quite large frames lately- c. 1000 x 700, and used 2mm glass. They have been in a substantial (72 mm) moulding, so it all seems pretty stable. I'd appreciate advice on the point size wise at which I should I start to consider thicker glass

Euro 8008 Butterfly underpinner for sale
Euro 8008 Butterfly underpinner for sale. I’m the second owner and it has had very light use from new. There are some original Euro wedges with it, and one box is dated September 1997. One problem these had in standard form was the large rock hard pressure pad, otherwise known as the moulding crushe...

Underpinner wanted
I've been looking for an underpinner for a while, but everything I see is down south - I'm in Scotland so fetching it is impractical and courier charges wreck the budget. I'm a part time operation so the budget is limited - £300 or thereby. anyone got any ideas/suggestions?

Re: Scotch ATG
I have one and I think it's definitely worth buying. It mrans that your DS tape is immediately to hand and clean and tidy. It's also fast to use. Occasionally it can get a bit irritating if the tape catches on the topside of the aperture in the case, but that's easily fixed. I wouldn't want to apply...

Thanks for the tips on polishing technique. I think I'll paint up some scrap and do a few experiments to see what gives me the best result.

Re: Colour tint from polish
Thank you for the replies. I had wondered about varnish but my experience in other areas is that it is slow drying and holds up the job. I'll check out Renaissance wax. Regarding liming wax I do sometimes use that but I usually finish it with the Bison wax on top because I find the liming wax very s...

Colour tint from polish
I use quite a lot of unfinished moulding that I paint white or cream, and then finish with black bison wax. I find the neutral imparts a yellowish tinge, and the clear an orange tint. Can anyone advise a technique or a product that will not have such an obvious effect on the finish?

Re: How do you measure?
Just to add a few words to Jack's post about Jim's video. I've been framing in a very small way for a little over a year. Being self taught I've picked up a few bad habits and have serious gaps in my knowledge. I found Jim's video a great introduction to first principles - clearly set out in a logic...
