Re: Deep Rebate options

Hello Mal, Thank you for your very prompt, informative reply. Am I correct in thinking, that the original (front) frame, carries the glass and window mount, with a suitable spacer between the rear of the window mount and the opposing face of the frame box. The frame box then has the (undermount) wit...

Deep Rebate options

Hello, I have a number of mixed media items to frame for a local artist. Some of these have a significant depth and none of the mouldings from my preferred supplier "Lion" fit the bill. Has anyone any direct experience of the Arquadia "Frame Box" method of producing a deeper reba...

Re: Repairs to 100 year old oil painting on canvas?

Thank you for the various advice to date. As I stated earlier, both canvases are extremely thin and quite fragile and hard. The edges of the canvas were originally glued (Rabbit Skin?) to the sides of the stretcher also pinned. I think there is a strong possibility of damaging them further, by tryin...

Re: Repairs to 100 year old oil painting on canvas?

Yes, the damage is on the outer, upper corner of the canvas, coincident with the inner edge of the frame rebate. One painting was complete with an original, narrow, gilded mount, the other had had one, but was missing. Is your recommendation , not to try and glue down the split, loose canvas, back o...

Repairs to 100 year old oil painting on canvas?

I am a relatively inexperienced framer and recently took in a couple of really old, small oil paintings on "canvas". When I took them apart, I found that some of the edges of the canvas had split. Whilst these have some sentimental value to the respective owners, I think they would be unwi...

Thanks for that, it may well help with sourcing a new cable/cables.
Would still welcome some input on the clamping off, inside the foor pedal

Re: Old Lion Bench End Guillotine problems

Image attached of the offending item. Outer cable has been removed for clarity.
Has anyone had to replace the inner cable on one of these Guillotines?

Re: Old Lion Bench End Guillotine problems

Hello Sam,
Thanks for your response.
I will try and post an image to see if it jogs someone's memory, there must be a lot of these still in use out there.

Old Lion Bench End Guillotine problems

Does any forum member, have one of the older style, black handled, Lion bench end guillotines ? I have inherited one and the cable recently broke. Lion could not supply a replacement, but I managed to source something similar elsewhere. My problem, concerns the locking of the lower end of the cable ...

Re: Morso problems

The machine is/was complete, I disconnected the draw bar from the stirrup and removed the springs and their attachements to help highlight the misalignment. I come from an engineering background, this is a pretty simple mechanism and I find it very difficult, to see how this amount of distortion cou...

Re: Morso problems

Thanks to the two forum members who took the time to respond to my original query. I have now spent some time, examining my machine in detail and it appears to have suffered a severe torsional trauma. The frame or body is badly distorted, to the point where a significant misalignment occurs between ...

Morso problems

I am pretty new to framing and have just picked up a Morso guillotine, which I purchased used, several months ago. The machine had been stored for several years, and had been liberally greased, before storage. Whilst cleaning off the congealed grease and very light rust, I was surprised to find that...

Wanted Casses CS88 and Keencut Gold 48"

I will be starting framing in about 2-3 months time and need to acquire a Casses CS88 underpinner and Keencut Ultimat Gold 48" mount cutter. Willing to pay good price for nice, clean equipment, in good working condition.
Can anyoone help?
