Re: Fine Art Trade Guild Logo

Can't really help but there is some info on the FATG website just in case you missed it? https://www.fineart.co.uk/buying/Stamp_of_Authenticity.aspx https://www.fineart.co.uk/buying/Guild_Archive_Artists.aspx There is a Sir Peter Scott listed so the FATG can give you some info but it will cost £15 +...

Re: Coating Painted Frame For Tack Free?

Do you use the waxy side of the paper in contact with the frame? No issues with the brown paper sticking (obviously)? I use a recycled brown paper which doesn't have a waxy side but if it did, I would use the waxy side out :D The polyvine varnish I use is a bit different to the one Mark uses, I use...

Re: Coating Painted Frame For Tack Free?

Have you been using the F&B test pots or are you talking about an eggshell or gloss finish paint? If the test pots then I'm very surprised you have a tacky finish as the estate emulsion is a dead flat matt and should not be tacky when dry. I also use Polyvine to finish and protect painted frames...

Re: Another newbie...think rabbit in headlights!

Welcome to the forum :D The best way to get help is to ask specific questions about equipment and mounting techniques etc., but if you want some help with pricing have a read through this from Gesso&Bole: PRICING FOR PICTURE FRAMERS This is one of those never-ending questions . . . . . I hope th...

Re: Photo mounted on warped board

Be careful here as you are entering into restoration work which should only be carried out by a qualified conservationist. Customers think framers can do all sorts of stuff, particularly if they are a conservation framer. Conservation framing should really be called 'preservation framing' as that is...

Re: Weight of acrylic

Hi Rainbow,

according to the Wessex guide to glass https://issuu.com/chapter2design/docs/glass_catalogue 3mm acrylic is lighter than 2mm float glass

3.25kg/m2 for 3mm acrylic
5.5kg/m2 for 2mm glass

Re: 2mm or 3mm glass?

2mm glass for me  but I do think it makes a difference on how the glass is held in the frame. 5mm spacers will offer less support than say a wide window mount! That's interesting Mark, just looking on the Wessex website, I see they only do 3mm WW glass now... I'm sure I used to order 2mm WW gla...

As Mark says, it operates the rebate clamp when you use the foot pedal to hold the moulding against the fences. If you need spare parts the codes are: Spring Z12 Outer cable Z1428 Inner cable Z1539 I think Wessex stock the spring and you could try https://www.underpinner-spares.co.uk for the cables ...

Re: Whitest conservation mount

Bright white paper or board will contain optical brightening agents (OBAs) so you're out of luck there. If your idea of conservation is in line with the FATG standards then the board can't contain OBAs: "2.17. The stock must be free of optical brightening agents." Having said that, the pri...
