Barefaced small oval frames

Can anyone point me to a supplier of barefaced oval frames.I am looking for sizes smaller than the standard 5"x7" that Arqadia and suchlike offer.
They work well with Victorian photographs where black or gold doesn't work.

Re: Swept frames for gilding

Thank you both-
Yes,Richard- to be particular,it is the examples of this type of frame that you have posted on your excellent blog that reminded me how pleasing they can be,when the detail is right.
Maybe there is a company knocking them out in Northern France somewhere...that would be nice

Swept frames for gilding

Can anyone point me in the direction of supply of Montparnasse Louis XIV - 20th C Impressionist Style frames -gessoed and ready for gilding?
This is the typical frame that smart galleries put expensive oil paintings in smart London galleries.
Thanks

Removal of gold paint from antique water gilded frames

Over the years I have rejected many interesting antique frames that have been "gold paint bodged" by cunning vendors hoping to fool their punters with a quick bit of vandalism! I have rescued a few with a very gentle paint stripper..and even regilded on occasion. Does the team have any tho...

Gesso-to spray or not to spray

I have always applied Gesso with a brush, but would be interested to try the spray method. Can it be done witha hand held Garden spray or is a Gravity fed gun hooked up to a compressor the only route? Is the gesso mixed to be more runny..is the keeping clean of the spray equip very difficult? Any ad...

Re: Ebony corner insets for Beidermeier frames

Ah! Now we can see what you want! My most immediate idea from looking at the picture, would be to suggest making the frame using a veneered moulding and after making the frame to cut away and remove a square section of the veneer from end corner, so that a new piece of veneer can be applied to cove...

Re: Ebony corner insets for Beidermeier frames

Thank you very much for your replies.I refer to them as Beidermeier frames having seen them so named in Pete Bingham's books.
Here is an illustration taken from a search engine's images.I have sent an email to Pete, will let the forum know if he replies!

Ebony corner insets for Beidermeier frames

Does anyone have any suggestions for the supply of suitable corner insets for these type of frames? I don't believe that ply or MDF would give a satisfactory, perfectly smooth substitute.Between 1" and 2" would be the approx size required.

Re: Poor Photo Mounting

[/quoteIt is replaceable. I checked before I dry mounted it and sought agreement with the customer.[/quote] As a rule,it is correct to avoid sticking any art or photo in any way that is not reversible. A trip to the National Portrait Gallery in London sets a good yardstick for correct framing of pho...
