Re: Wiping dust from photographs

Search for Giottos rocket blower. I use this on every picture and mount before framing. You just squeeze these and they are quite powerful, without the risk of moisture or oil from a compressor.

As Mike mentioned above the cans of air do sometimes spit moisture too and a fair bit when they do.

Re: Using an underpinner - or not...

I cut, glue and underpin straight away. Don't really have time and space for band clamps. I think the problem with underpinning after the glue is dry is that you can weaken the joint from the already set glue. When I started I remember a big change to the improvement of my joins with an underpiner w...

Re: STRAIGHT CUTTING WITH NEW FUTURA

When you say straight cutting do you mean just cutting the boards to size, if so it sounds like you are using the wrong blade. I use a medium Stanley style blade and if it doesn't cut throughin one you just increase the depth of the blade. Only really thick boards do I not cut through in one go. If ...

Re: Suggestions please..

You can pick a Keencut 4000 up for not a lot of money, they are old but built like a tank.

You can also cut a lot of backing on the mountcutter and if you have a big enough workbench glass is easy to cut with a £25 glass hand glass cutter and a T-square.

Re: Table covers??

I use the self healing mats on my workbench and then use a roll of the soft laminate floor underlay for glass cleaning and final assembly which I remove once finished.

Re: Flattening prints

For items that are not so valuable a hot-press is a great investment. Low heat, turn the pump on and prints come out flat in next to no time. A roller blind can also be used by roller the print in the opposite direction, easier to get wrong at the same time though. As above though I find sticking so...

Re: Car leasing

It might be worth looking at electric cars as due to the current tax incentives for business leasing they can work out much cheaper than Ice cars.

Re: Mountboard Companies

I tend to use quite a few suppliers so can order boards from different manufactures, but at present I only use one mountboard manufacturer which is Larson Juhls own boards who I normally order direct from. I don't tend to have too many issues with a few of the other colours, but I use the snow white...

Mountboard Companies

For the last ten years I have been using the same company for my mountboard, with 70% using one white colour. I had an issue with boards being full of specks about a year or two back and did speak with the company about it, things had been much better until this summer, but the last few months the b...

Re: "white" mountboard recommendations

My most popular is Larsons Snow White which is not classed as a conservation board, but does work well with a lot of fine art giclee papers. My next most popular is Glacier, but this does have a bit more of a contrast when placed next to a lot of the giclee papers.

Re: Wings on an underpinner?

I have the underpinner at the same height as the workbench. I still keep a gap between the two to stand as I prefer to pin from the front. The workbench then supports any larger frames.

Re: Cutting MDF

I started with a £30 bench end guillotine which cut MDF nicely. But as others have said the workbench soon gets cluttered so I switched to a cheap used keencut system 4000 about eight years ago which has been fantastic, so well built and just does the job nicely even though it's ancient. I cut a lot...

They look like the standard ones so you just need universal wedges from another brand. All the main framing suppliers should sell them.

Re: Taurus underpinner wedged wanted

Taurus disappeared around 10 years ago. A lot of their machines just use standard universal wedges. I use the Cassese universal ones in my 292D and they are fine. Taurus did make some underpinners with a different type of wedge which I believe you can no longer get hold of anymore from anyone, I thi...

I send frames out every day with Parcelforce and I have to say I am very happy with them. In terms of damage I have had very little problems. Usually less than one damaged a year. I think the last one was around two years ago. In ten years I think they have lost one parcel. Parcels don't always arri...

Re: Bambi Compressor Help

Thank you all for your help, I managed to get the other connector off my old machine and swap them over so I can get working again. All seems to be working fine, it looks ancient (1991) but hopefully I can repair the leak on my old bambi and this will just get me by in the meantime and then I can ke...
