BBest vs Wessex

Hi, I’m in the market for some pricing software (my wife told me to buy some lol) so am thinking either BBEST or Wessex’s software. I do framing part time and typically use mouldings from Wessex, DJ Simon and Lion - maybe Mainline in the future too. I’m just after something that adds a typical frame...

Hairline cracks in mouldings

Hi, Has anyone else experienced hairline cracks appearing in mouldings? I'm assuming it's a fluctuating temperature issue as all my moulding cutting takes place in an un-heated garage. Small hairline cracks have started to appear in Lion's L1192 - I also have a frame in the loft in L1171 that's crac...

Satin finishing on dark mouldings?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone’s ever been able to achieve a metallic silver satin finish on a dark wood moulding, i.e. replicate Wessex’s B1488 on a dark moulding? Customer has two stepped dark wood frames that they ‘d like (if possible) to be painted/lacquered metallic silver so they look like B148...

Wun-Pul's - equivalents?

Hi all,

I'm curious to know if there's an alternative out there the the Wun-Pul system?

I may / may not need to get one and am wanting to know if there's a cheaper alternative that would fit the two hole habegrs for instance (Lion's part 5789 / 4626)

Thanks,

Sean

Re: 100 off Box Frames

Thanks, yes I am inclined to put some on the price for someone else to make the frames - I have an enquiry out with a local framer on that basis.

Mounts incidentally come to £0.83 and £1.75 each.

100 off Box Frames

Hi all, Just wanted to get an idea of what you would charge for 50 off each of the box frames attached? I'm thinking the glass and MDF cut to size by Wessex, the mounts by another source so all I'd do is make the frames and put together. Ironically the Debenhams prices for the frames are £8.00 each ...

Re: Help - trying to find a moulding.

Hi Anne,

I don't know what the moulding is but I've got a similar looking frame in my loft if that's any good?

Re: Moulding display on your website

I would tend to post examples of finished frames. Get the punters though the door and show them the mouldings in the flesh. I agree 100% with this - my site is full of Lion mouldings (who I don't use anymore). I need to arrange to take all the images off then people will have to come round instead ...

Wessex's B1447

Hi, Happy New Year to you all...! I had a customer visit earlier who chose Wessex's B1447 - upon checking their website they don't do it anymore...! I don't suppose anyone (locally ideally) has a piece I could have do they otherwise I'll have to offer them an alternative. Don't need much - 6 foot if...

Knipex Super Crimper

Hi all,

Can anyone vouch for the Super Crimper that Lion do - is it any good?

http://www.lionpic.co.uk/product/Super- ... 644,0.aspx

I need something similar but don't necessarily want to spend £101 on one.

Thanks,

Sean

Re: Free Chevrons offered

Wessex and Lion charge for their samples - Lion never used to until recently, Wessex have been charging for a while now - understandable. The only other supplier I use now is DJ Simons and they don't charge.

If someone wants my chevvies they can otherwise they get burnt/dumped - end of...!

Re: Free Chevrons offered

Well there's a mixed wood container at our local tip, so as far as I'm concerned they can go in there - the plain wood mouldings can be burnt on the fire in the winter :-)

Free Chevrons offered

Thought that might get your attention! I have a large number of Lion samples available, plus some DJ Simon ones. The Lion samples are chevrons I've made up from 200mm long sticks, so aren't particularly long but would maybe suit someone whose starting out in framing. The DJ ones are 12" long st...

Football Gloves Framing

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone's ever framed a pair of signed football gloves and if so how much did you typically charge please? I would have thought a figure of £70.00 would be the marker? Client's asked for then in a box frame - one of DJ Simon's deep rebate obeche mouldings would probably do ...

Re: Keencut Futura??????!!

Ok, So if I'm singing from the same hymn sheet as you Canvas Chris it would appear anyone whose got an Ultimat can upgrade their machine to those specific parts of the futura, therefore getting the interchangeable heads? I'm specifically just stocking/showing Colourmount's boards in a bid to use the...

Re: Keencut Futura??????!!

Lion are quoting for the upgrade: 1000... £323 1200... £340 1500... £374[/quote] What do you mean by an upgrade please? I spent what seemed like hours this afternoon changing the blade depth on my UG 48 today and changeable blade holders would be a godsend. It could also be a case of a bad workman ...

Re: suppliers

Wessex and DJ Simons for me. Wessex have a min order charge of £15.00, but you can order just two sticks of moulding. Their glass supply is fabulous too. Check deliveries with Wessex as I'm sure they can deliver any day as opposed to a specific day (on the specific day it's their own van). DJ Simons...

DJ Simons MB/KEY/50 to 86

Hi all, I've received some of DJ Simon's Acid Free Mountboards recently - specifically chosen by me as the ones I've got are the "equivalent" to Colourmount's ones. While the boards aren't marked with anything to identify them I assume that they are conservation with a white core that will...

56 Frames Price

Hi all,

I was asked to quote someone for 56 brown frames (260mm x 340mm) complete with glass and backing, so came up with a figure of £8.00 a frame - does that sound about right or am I selling myself short please?

By brown frame I'm thinking a thin one incidentally.

Thanks!
