Pilkington Glass

Quick question - does Pilkington Glass still manufacture/supply 2mm glass or have they stopped it?

Re: Restoring hardened Liberon cream

PS. I had another look at it and decided I could get an even better match if I mixed the Light Oak with some Liberon mahogany. But it re-hardens so quickly so instead of using a hairdryer, I held the spoon over a candle, and just kept mixing and heating until it was perfect. I felt like an Elizabeth...

Re: Restoring hardened Liberon cream

Many thanks for both replies. I've heated it up as you suggested, Steve, and it worked a treat. All done, thanks again!

Restoring hardened Liberon cream

I've seen previous threads that say you can use white spirit to restore the Liberon gilt cream. Does this work on all the Liberon creams or just the gilts? I've got a Light Oak that has shrunk into a hard cylinder shape. I only need to use the slightest sliver on a very thin line but when I try to s...

Many thanks for all these replies.

Worried about the weight

I’m a bit worried about the weight of a job I’m doing. The size is 75 x 55, and I’m having to use 3mm glass because my nearby stockist has stopped selling 2mm glass. The problem is that the moulding will only take one wedge. Fortunately I can use a 12mm wedge but with the 3mm glass, it feels very he...

Re: AR glass vs AR acrylic

Hi Graham, the customer has asked for anti-reflective, but I'll recommend the highest possible level of UV as well.

Re: AR glass vs AR acrylic

I appreciate that, Mark, but like I said - it's unavoidable. I'll advise the customer anyway to close the blinds when the sun is shining, but even when the sun isn't shining, it will still be in direct light. The picture doesn't have any significant financial value.

AR glass vs AR acrylic

For a picture that has to be unavoidably hung in direct sunlight, I know there is no ideal solution but would you recommend AR glass or AR acrylic as the best option under the circumstances. Thanks.

You could try a different browser, and make sure whatever browser you're using is up-to-date - Chrome / Edge / Firefox / Safari (Mac only). I'm on Mac but I find Firefox the most reliable.

Re: Swept frames

Thanks, Mark. The rest of the frame is in a pretty bad way, although I've told the customer that restorers can sometimes work wonders with fillers, moulds etc, and I've suggested a restorer. The customer is currently mulling over the options.

Swept frames

I've got a customer with a vintage painting in a swept frame that has seen better days and they want to replace it. I've had a look round several suppliers' web sites but can't see too much choice. Apart from Frinton Frames, can anyone suggest another supplier that specialises in traditional swept f...

Re: Reveal frame, then took on the warp of the canvas board

I framed a canvas board recently that was so warped that it was actually concave. The way I dealt with it was to build up all round it with rigid foamboard, until the foamboard was level with the highest point. The mount then rested flat on the foamboard in order to cover the edges of the canvas boa...
