Re: Clear Film Magazine mount
Yes, John, any brand or type of acrylic could be suitable for DCO mounting, but the "extras" are often worth the added price. Abrasion-resistance keeps the item in contact from scuffing the inside of the acrylic sheet over time, due to normal expansion/contraction cycles. UV filtering slow...

Re: Clear Film Magazine mount
Nice work, David. The Museum Optium Acrylic really does make it look like the magazine is floating by levitation. The same method works for newspapers, documents, and flat textiles, as well. One practical limitation is that this direct contact overlay ( DCO) technique could harm items that have frag...

Re: Clear Film Magazine mount
Thanks for mentioning my clear film mounting technique and my book, John. I was wondering why I suddenly received several inquiries from UK framers about Mounting Objects with Clear Film . This thread must be the reason. Incidentally, only two copies of that book remain unsold, and it probably will ...

Re: Valiani adds two more CMC's to their inventory
Please excuse my file-bumbling here. At John's suggestion, I have posted the .cdr and .plt files of the Melinex spider template in the Valiani Users forum. The .pdf file has been converted to a .jpg, and is attached here. I hope it is adequately legible.

Here is the Melinex spider template...I think. I'm barely computer-literate, you know.

Re: Valiani adds two more CMC's to their inventory
Since the WCAF show, I have received my Deluxe Mat Stylus. These new collets are a good improvement over the original design. Having the ability to ink, deboss, and cut gives us unprecedented versatility in producing decorated mat designs. Using the new Mat Stylus technology, I am producing verses a...

Re: How to Mount Medals
The Melinex "spider" mount is detailed in my book, Mounting Objects with Clear Film , which may be available from a supplier of books by Columba Publishing Company (also the publisher of the late Vivian Kistler's books). Lion, perhaps? I have prepared an illustrated instruction in a .pdf f...

Re: Slope Sided Box Designer
Thank you for providing this handy utility for calculating cove mat dimensions. Very quick and easy to use! An incredible conicidence: Just a few days before I learned of this from a post on the USA Picture Framers Grumble, I submitted a feature article to Picture Framing Magazine. The subject was a...

I took the liberty of tightening up the line intersections. When debossing or cutting with the white 90-degree head, I believe this may work better. Your thoughts?

Re: Celtic Knot 1
That's a very good design, John. Did you create it from scratch, or scan and import it to the program? What would happen if you moved the closed ends of the lines closer together and overlapped some of them? I may try that. Cheers, Jim Miller, MCPF, GCF ARTFRAME, Inc. Re: Calligraphic Scroll
The cut depth was set to about "8" on the knob. After cutting, I removed the top paper with tweezers. The rough, white surface is the core paper after shredding away the top paper. I meant to attach the files, but worked with a framing customer and ran out of editing time. Scroll by Jim Mi...

Calligraphic Scroll
Attached are a couple of photos taken of the scroll design I created from scratch in Corel Draw Sunday afternoon. I have tried only a few cuts of this, but it seems to work well with the green, red, white cutting heads, as well as the purple debossing head. The cutting depth needs to be something le...

Re: Desperately Seeking Smooth Drymount Surface
I recently received a new product from the KoolTack company, called the "Perma Lon" permanent release board. This is a 32" x 40" x 1/16" sheet of transparent Lexan with some sort of slippery release material attached to one side. It comes with a limited ten-year guarantee. Y...

Re: Welcome to the CMC UK users forum.
I've owned my Valiani MatPro150i for about a year, including all six of the interchangeable heads. My previous CMC was a Fletcher F6100, which served me well for several years, but I really like the Valiani. What first attracted me was the machine's ability to cut small-radius circles with good prec...

A pleasure to meet you.
I wish to thank Keith Hewitt and Roboframer/John for attending our West Coast Art and Frame show in Las Vegas last week. It was a pleasure to meet and talk with both of you. If any others from the UK were there and I missed meeting you, I am sorry. Perhaps eventually I will be able to visit the UK a...

Re: Conservation Framers???
We enjoy similar conversations in the USA framing forums. There, as here, some participants embrace preservation framing enthusiastically, while others seem to resent the concept, as though it is practiced mainly by arrogant know-it-alls trying to stuff their ways down everyone's gullet. Not so, in ...
