Re: Glass storage

I keep the old glass boxes and protective plastic/paper and store all the offcuts in them.

Re: Fundamental Morso Questions

Have you checked that your bottom "blades" are set close enough to the top blades? When you say the moulding is pushing away, that sounds like dull blades. Try cutting a piece of oak moulding. If they're blunt you will feel the resistance and the oak being pushed away. Obeche mouldings lik...

Re: AR glass (anti reflective)

When you say AR glass do you mean "Reflection Control" glass? That is hazy and has no place in modern framing imo. It's terrible stuff! The AR UV70 by Truevue or Artglass however is my best seller. I take the sampler off the wall and hold it in front of them, job done. I always quote the f...

cs88 bungs.png Try adding the metal thing in the pic to the back of the rebates so that the bung does not press on the fences. [attachment=0]20240906_144510.jpg

Re: To Glue, Or Not?

Not gluing is fine if you are attempting to compete with £ shops and Ikea. Otherwise it's a no-no. If a join fails in the future, the wedges will save the frame from falling apart. I have seen many fallen frames come in for a reglaze. If it wasn't for pins, wedges and keys, the artworks would probab...

Re: A moment for Praise

I love a bit of critique, I hope Matt does too. I love the frame and slip. I think the gold slip could be a bit warmer and aged a bit more. It doesn't appear to be gold leaf, which if it was mine I would want and the frame to be a bit more ebonised, a bit more antique and glossy. Obeche is really no...

Re: Anyone recognise this moulding

I would say that it's a barewood moulding that's had the rebate removed and a backing attached to create the tray frame, or if that's a step in at the back, then perhaps an obeche tray frame attached to a barewood moulding.

Re: Mountcutting and Dry Mounting Qs

Just coming back to a question Gesso&Bolle asked. Is your table that the mountcutter is sitting on flat and without flex if you put pressure on it? There is a slight bit of flex in the mountcutter base in my experience. Have a look under the mountcutter, there should be a number of little rubber...

Re: Selling Business and Pricing equipment

There's bound to be a few framers in your local area. They might take whole packs off your hands, but mixed loose sheets I'm not sure it's worth it for anybody. We all want virgin unscuffed unmarked pristine materials in this game! There's a framers at the art shop in Sidmouth I spotted on my last t...

Re: Selling Business and Pricing equipment

Honestly the best way to see what things are selling for is to search on eBay and tick the sold items search box, then you can see exactly how much people are paying. Imo job lots are a hard sell taking more time, but a lot less work involved for you and less money in the end I suspect. We could pro...

Re: Hello, been running an antique map shop for years and looking to purchase a CMC

Hi Alex, It's always worth chasing up old posts in my experience. I bought one of my best machine on here from a long lost 'for sale' post. I have the Gunnar F1 hybrid which does what you need. I wouldn't be without it or the unwavering support from Sarah at Gunnar. She also runs tutorial sessions w...

Re: To frame, or not to frame?

In your experience, how has that gone with customers? Someone brings something in they have already decided they want to frame, but are then given the suggestion that was a bad idea, and that framing a copy instead and putting the actual thing back in the drawer it came out of is a better one. Then...

Re: To frame, or not to frame?

Personally, I'd get them scanned and printed to frame and store the originals well somewhere safe. They'll be as interesting to someone in 100 years as they are to you today.
