Re: Help needed- mounting large(!) photograph
I would be hinging it all around to a board cut to the same size as the print. The problem is that mountboard even 2.4 thickness can warp and cause the issues that you're aware of. I would look for an inert backing that doesn't have that issue like a polypropylene fluted board and hinge it to that.

Re: Why do the blades keep separating?
The only thing the blades cutting edges should come into direct contact with is the moulding.

Re: Why do the blades keep separating?
There shouldn't be any direct contact between your top and bottom blades. If there is you have more than likely damaged the cutting edge of your top blades. I would loosen the bottom blades and move them back away. Remove top blades and clean the face where they sit to ensure that nothing is prevent...

Re: mount board suppliers
The LJ website will let you order free sets of all of their mountboard, free glass gloves etc and supply cardboard or plastic sample holders. Wessex can then supply your mountboard needs by the sheet.

If of low value and with consent it could be hotpress adhered to a board.

I can vouch for the framers equipment Beginners course day in Northampton. It got me started and they can send you home with all of the sundries that you need from their extensive store and some shiny new equipment if required.

Give TGS repairs a call. Not in your area but I believe they travel to and from Bristol, so worth an ask?

Re: Compressor
If it's going to be in your work space then db level is important. The green Bambi silent really are very quiet when they cycle. If you have a room you can hide it in then this is not so important and prices for loud ones are much cheaper. Underpinners, guns and cmc's use very little air to work so ...

Re: Float framing
Yes that is another option. It's not one that I personally favour, but is perfectly acceptable. I have had a piece in for reframing originally framed by Darbyshire framers (who frame for Tracy Emin, Damien Hirst etc) done like this.

Re: Float framing
Hi Mary, how is just hinging from the top going to support the sides and bottom of a floated piece and prevent the piece from moving and touching the glass? Gummed tapes come in many weights. The important point is to always use a hinging tape of lower weight than the weight of the artwork. This is ...

Re: Any way to hang an unframed canvas board?
This is when a little bandsaw is handy. I cut down a couple of wood squares, pva then under weights to the back then hot glue a d ring to each. The plate hangers mentioned by folly framing is a great idea, I've only ever used them on plates!

Re: Jagged Cuts & Splitting
Cutting a prefinished moulding upside down can work, as long as the finish doesn't chip. But looking at your morso I wouldn't slide a moulding face across it for fear of what might stick to the face.

Re: Jagged Cuts & Splitting
Anything to degrease it, not sure meths will do that. Some parts will require reoiling after, check manual. These blades are really finely honed. If there's nicks out of the blade they're not going to work as expected. Invest in a brand new shiny pair of blades, simples! If you want an idea of what ...

Re: Jagged Cuts & Splitting
Like carving the Sunday Roast with a hacksaw. Zooming in I can see the chips in the blades, the flecks of moulding where it's dragged and where it's caught between the gap in the blades. New blades required! I'd recommend downloading a Morso manual and carefully stripping it back a bit, cleaning par...

Re: Jagged Cuts & Splitting
Can I ask first what you mean by "the rebate supports being more user friendly"? Looking at the photo of your Morso, I suspect that it would benefit from a clean down. Some fine wet n dry, alcohol, ptfe lube spray after. With so many variables, it's hard to know where to start with advice!...

Re: Maintaining Depth at Assembly
@robM the spacer comes in 12mm and 18ishmm +. To save the hassle of the backing paper going over the spacer, I usually brush some stain over the back of the moulding and the side of the spacer and just tape over the face of the spacer. I've done this with deeper spacers I've made too and it does hid...
