Re: Moulding Lengths

I suggest moving this post to the Product Support For Estlite section.
John McAfee built Estlite and this forum and is always happy to help with questions.
If you need a more urgent response to a query, his contact number is actually in the Estlite customer/contact pages.

Re: Window mount sizes query

Sandwiching the package with tape, as well as the other benefits, stops it from dropping down and maintains the even visible mount imo.

Re: New to framing - Corner gap, maybe underpinner

This may be a first, but I have to disagree with Dermot! I'm my (much less) experience there are far more variables in underpinning than in cutting on the Morso. For this reason many people glue and clamp overnight before underpinning. The risk is always that underpinning may break the glue joint an...

Re: Getting paint inside sight edge

No masking here, if its a canvas you can use the volará foam rebate tape to keep the canvas away from the wood. Lineco aluminium rebate tape is also good for preventing paper works from coming into direct contact with the wood.

Re: nice quality hard wood moulding frames.

Plain polished oak has always been very popular for us, mostly just straight narrow profiles. Ash is more popular with Artists/printmakers for exhibitions and more contemporary minded customers. Often its limed or a rubbed back pale paint finish.

Re: New to framing - Corner gap, maybe underpinner

Hi Brian,
These look great!
Do you have adjustable fences? If so try tilting the fence a tiny bit back.
Try placing the front wedge as close to the front inside as possible and place your back wedge a tiny bit further forward. If you are leaving these as barewood find a wood filler that matches.

Re: Hot Press Dry Mounting issues

I have only used Hotpress tissue, but I suspect the only differences would be the required temp and possibly the time. Have you got sufficient vacuum? I have been told by Steve Goodall of Wessex/Hotpress(their trainer) that you can't overcook tissues by leaving it in too long. The tissue should be b...

Re: Cutting dibond

May be worth having a look on Lions clearance section, they have 12 sizes of precut dibond, but only a few of each size left.

Re: MDF or Art Bak

I tried it for the first the other day. The trouble I found was that the intentional curve in the board made a corner lift as it was cutting, knocked the head, basically messing it up and requiring a reinitialisation. Like I said it was my first time/day on the cmc, so it might just be me? Are parts...

Re: Larson-Juhl Scholarship 2021 (2nd round) Open For Entries

As I've said before, if anyone is considering taking the scholarship but needs a push, I'm happy for them to get in touch.
I won a scholarship in 2018, was certified in 2019 and I haven't looked back.

Re: Framing an antique letter

We do pretty much all of our floating using the hedgehog method. The weight of the paper will determine the weight of the acid free gummed paper tape for hinging. It will be totally reversible and if you use the right amount of moisture on the tape, shouldn't leave a mark. Alternatively, you could p...
