Re: Spandrel Frame

I have obtained idigbo (also called "poor mans oak") from Nixons timber in Wisbech in the past in fact, they usually have some in stock and if not will get it in.

Very helpful company and never beaten on service or price.

Re: Speechless

Definitely not one of mine because when I first started framing HK oils on stretchers my method was to cut thin strips of Aluminium from Coke cans about 1 and 1/2 inch long and 1/4 inch wide, pin one end in the rebate, place in the painting and fold the strips over the stretcher and secure with a se...

Thank you for the "hollow punches" suggestion. I had thought about them buts it's nice to have that idea confirmed.

Re: Framing spectacles

A very interesting and timely thread. I say timely because I have an object framing job that is very complicated. Looking at my own glasses, they also are nearly 40cm deep when folded and would require a box frame to accommodate that depth. I see in your OP you have permission to remove the arms of ...

Re: Moulding Storage

Not being capable of uploading photo's I will attempt to explain how I store much of my moulding. One 10ft length of 2"x12 with 12" lengths screwed from the back at regular intervals at right angles. Assembled on my work bench before securing to the walls. To retain the vertical moulding I...

Re: Domain for sale if anyone is interested

Hi Kev

Your offer looks to be a very good opportunity for some one who is going for it. If I was much younger and in business these days (with all my faculties) :giggle: I would take it up with alacrity.

Good to see your occasional posts and I hope the down sizing is working out for you ok.

Re: Fixing heavy fabric

I use a combination of tag gun and stitches when framing fabric.

Stitching is not difficult and a thimble is a great help. Although you can obtain coloured tags online there is a much wider colour choice using thread/cotton making it easy to hide the stitches.

Good luck with your project.

Re: Framing oil on 5mm ply

Hi Paul, I hope things are going well in your new shop :D

Glad to read it's being varnished both sides, that will help. I would definitely go the sub-frame route as prospero suggests and because of it's size, I would add extra strength to the corners.

Re: Cotton Rag Board

I echo what Justin (George) said :D

IMHO cutting the materials used in picture framing is the easy part of the process, providing you have good tools/equipment and sharp blades. It's other elements that can be tricky.

If you get stuck and need some help with those mounts then send me a pm.

Once again thanks for your reply and I am sure it will work for you.

I can think of a number of ways your new toy can generate extra income. Would you be kind enough and post a few details about your machine and what prompted you buy one?

Re: Vintage Tools.

I've found this thread very depressing :( It's made me realize that most of my tools are vintage, Record G clamps, wooden folding rules, manual planes and drills and a Stanley 400 vice etc. The depressing thing is they were all "state of the art" when I purchased them. However, as attached...

Wessex Roadshow.

Yesterday I had a very enjoyable couple of hours at the Wessex Roadshow held at Newmarket Racecourse. A superb venue, steeped in history and tradition and not too far from the Suffolk/Essex border (Constable country) where I was born and grew up :D It was a bit of a trek for me from the car park to ...
