Re: framing silk scarves
Keep it real simple. A T-Tag tool https://www.lionpic.co.uk/p/38049/T-Tag-Tool-for-5mm-Tags Then a piece of Mountboard slightly smaller than the scarf when it is laid out. a few well placed tags to hold it's shape. Then glue your undermount to a Mountboard the size of your frame and finish as normal...

Re: First OS map coming in tomorrow....
Don't show the customer anything thin. Set out some samples beforehand and make sure they are sturdy enough to do the job. Minimum 30mm I would think, without knowing the sizes. This would probably be my starting point Sample 1 - Lion Domino Black 38mm, cheap enough but big enough. Sample 2 - Lion V...

Re: Framing prints for an exhibition that are different sizes. What would look best?
I would still err on making the frame work for the image, rather than making the room tie together. If someone wants to purchase an artwork, they will want the framing to be right for the artwork. Again, that's only my perspective on it, YMMV. We are more known as a gallery than a framer and our gol...

Re: Framing prints for an exhibition that are different sizes. What would look best?
Much, much better to have each frame the appropriate size for it's own image. Trying to have everything identical sizes is a recipe for an unenjoyable job and a final product that doesn't look as good as it can. IMHO. Inform the customer that best practice when hanging picture is to have the largest...

Re: Price for 140x99cm frame?
Why is the customer heavily discounted? Genuine question.
FWIW I almost never give a discount and on the very odd occasion I do it's 5% tops and only on part of an order (for example if I have some leftovers from other jobs and don't have to order stuff in).

A couple of Yuval Harari books deal with this subject (and more) in a very illuminating and interesting way
1 - Homo Deus
2 - 21 Lessons for the 21st Century
Would also recommend Sapiens by the same author - they make a great audiobook trilogy to listen to in the workshop.

Hinging Tape
For some reason everywhere seems to have stopped stocking the hinging tape I always used.
I ordered a couple of different rolls and they both are like this. To me this seems like faulty tape? Yes?
What's your preferred hinging tape?

Re: Wanted - Keencut Excalibur 5000
Hi James Thanks for the heads up, will keep a close eye on that. Just looking at that it seems as though there are at least 2 'ages' of the 5000? An older model and the newer one - does anyone know if there is a difference between them? Is the head identical? I had a quick google there, but couldn't...

Re: Hello from a soon-to-be framer (I hope!)
Hi - good luck and I wish you well. It's an enjoyable trade to be in, lots of interesting things get framed :) It's a travel, but I went to Atkins in Edinburgh for a 2 day course to get started and it was excellent. Got me up and running. There's plenty more training once you get going. If your husb...

Estlite Supplier List
Hi
I've just re-installed Estlite after a hard drive failure. I reloaded from the backup, all fine.
However when I check my supplier list it is much reduced (see pic) and they appear to be non British suppliers.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Chevron display
We use velcro strips attached to our counters, very simple.
I'm intrigued to see what others are doing, I'll also be looking at improving our display when time allows (ha).
EDIT** If anyone know how to turn them around it would maybe make more sense

Re: HOW TO TAKE A DEPOSIT IN ESTLITE....
Full payment up front has made life so much simpler for us in terms of systems and cash flow (and customers actually collect sooner). Very very little resistance to it. This. It's our system too (big sign behind the counter "Payment upfront and rush fee 35%" and we've never lost a sale be...

Re: Pricing multi-window mounts on a CMC with software.
Any business seeking a return on their investment isn't asking for "some sort of compensation", that's an unfair characterisation :) It's the cost to do the job that counts. In the case of additional windows for those that use a CMC, that cost can be worked out based on their investment. F...
