My method of making wheat paste is to use a microwave oven. I use a glass jar filled with 15ml of water and the powdered paste(one teaspoon). I set the timer to 10 seconds and heat - then stir a bit with a wood craft stick(ice cream stick). I repeat the process as needed until the paste cooks(change...

Nori wheat paste
For those who have used Nori premade wheat paste in small envelopes, sad news. The product has been discontinued due to weak sales. He was selling less than 1,000 packets a month - worldwide.

Les, From what I understand Guardian discontinued the manufacture of their UV glass. I tried to order some 6 weeks ago and was told that from my Distributor :( --- Their manufacturing facility in Carleton - about 25 miles from me - was where it was made. The coating line was actually in their R &...

Prints on canvas (fabric) should be stretched as any oil painting, on stretcher or strainer bars. As alternative to what you want to do, I would apply a coating of PVA adhesive (white glue - fabric adhesive), apply with a chip brush or a paint roller, to the foam center board and let it dry under pr...

hotpress size
One thing to remember........ if you do not have the larger press (40 x 60) you will not sell anything approaching that size........ you will be leaving the money on the table vs your pocket. "I am sorry, we (sir or madam) we do not have the equipment to work that size" Do you really want ...

when there is moulding that is no longer available (or other materials) the concept of "replacement equivelant" is the way to go. A moulding of an original value of $5.00 a ft is replaced with a moulding of $5.00 a ft - or as close as possible to that concept. There are times when the clai...

insurance work
One thing to remember about insurance work ......... be ethical with both sides of the loss. That is, do not charge for services not rendered and do not charge for work that will enrich the owner of the property. As far as enrichment is concerned .... if the original glass was regular glass - only r...

fire/water damage work
I have gone after this type of work for over 20 years. It can be profitable and it can also be a pain in the rear. Be sure to charge enough to cover for the following: storage (before and after the work is done) estimates that do not result in work pickup and delivery slow pay contamination issues f...

We all know this saying ------ the last one to touch it ... is it! As a framer we are the last to touch the art. We are it (liable for its condition) As far as I am concerned the gallery selling that artist work is as much to fault as the artist for selling self destructing art. The gallery not know...
