Re: Very deep box frame

Mark, if you are asking me regarding the use of plywood, I would use notched rabbited corners, with the joining done with the top and bottom panels. This would leave both sides free of visible joints. There would be a "face frame" in front the the "box" for decorative visibility.

Re: Framing a record

While the mounting can be done; it is not a practical request from the customer. The easiest way would be to digitally make a copy of the label and attach the label to a dummy disc made from another LP of no value. Mount this dummy disc into the frame and safeguard the collector one for actual playi...

Although it is a specialty product in the US, Baltic birch is a very stable and SOP product for cabinet makers and a good choice in that it comes in various thicknesses.

Re: A dolly/cart for moving packages of glass and board?

For the moving of, fragile, valuable, and large items you might want to consider "A" (or a cart with strong sides) frame style carts for the added security they offer.

A picture framing is a part of consumer retaining for the most part, it is called POS, Point of Sale. My personnel computer experience in retail goes back to the dark ages before personnel computers. At one point, I was a system analyst for a major retailor with the objective to collect and transfer...

The only other alternative is to increase the width of the rebates to "hide" the out of square geometry. This might require a wider frame.

Once again, as picture framers, we do not have magic wands.

This sounds like a case of taking the art off of the stretcher/strainer bars and restretching the art.

Is this project, perchance, of tourist art that was stretched on raw wood vs milled bars?

Re: Deposit dilemma....

Thank you Jay for the added info. With that being the case, I would treat each and every frame job as a separate order with accompanying invoice, just like every other client. That is how, years ago, I did a significant business with a major home builder until their system changed to being internal....

Re: Deposit dilemma....

Not knowing the actual billing and payment terms from your client and the time necessary to complete the task leaves us in a bind regarding suggestions. My first assumption was that there is a lead time between the billing and the receiving of a payment. Second, you are just now adding a variable th...

Re: Deposit dilemma....

In the general world of business, you invoice what you have on the books, the 38 prints.

Any additions are considered new orders and should be billed as they are ordered. Easy-peasy.
Another way of saying this is writing a "job change authorization".

Re: Fabric work top cover

If you are performing dis-assembly as well as assembly on the same table, I would not be in favor of any fabric covering, even carpet. A smooth surface is definitely easier to clean than a surface with pits and valleys. There is just to big a chance of getting bits from the dis-assembly process imbe...

Re: Chop saw thoughts

There are many grades and platter thicknesses of saw blades. Platters of the circular sawblades will flex depending on the forces exerted. There is a tradeoff between platter thickness and rigidity.
With a 25 year old saw there could be a bearing / arbor issue as well.

Re: Mounting Japanese Paper?

The basic standard of operation is to mount the art to the undermount(a rigid piece of mountboard), backing board, or similar product) first. There are various methods of mounting depending on the physical properties and value of the art. The second step is to cover this undermount with the mountboa...

I had to look into what Osmo wood filler was on line. It is a water based filler and the manufacturer does not have a MDS sheet for the product on-line. What size nails are you using? Are you attempting to lime finish the frame before or after the wood filler is used? Can you post a photo of what yo...

Most mat cutters have a "settings" screen for this. It appears that the start and stop plunging of the blade need to be adjusted.
