Re: Can I prepare rabbit skin glue in an electric egg poacher?
That is even a better idea since it has a variable temperature knob. 40°C is more than hot enough.

That is an old trick I learned many many years ago; however, I do not think that I have had a newspaper delivery to my home in almost 20 years.

Re: Trade priced frames for local artists.
Assist me with your math........
At £35.00 per frame times 20% off is £28. £28 times 6 is £168. Where did the £84 come from?
Can you make and finish those 6 in one day? If so, can you can survive on that?
If it is, then go for it.
Cheers,
Jerry

Good for you. Do what you do best, at a fair price. Offering the artist's bargain prices for larger quantities(like per 10 or 12) and not for one's and two's is the way to go.

Re: Trade priced frames for local artists.
Mark, this is going on everywhere. The world economy has changed over the last 3 years. Artists are not always attuned to the realities of the world (being street wise) and how it has changed. Stick your feet planted in reality vs what it used to be. If you cannot make a profit from your labors, let...

Re: Cheapest acid free mountboard for undermount
If you are going for the preservation market, you have to delete the term "acid free" in your vocabulary as it is really a marketing term from the paper industry and not a professional picture framer/conservator term. There are others nasties in paper other that the ph level. Preservation mount boar...

Re: Help to mount an oil painting
The first rule of a professional picture framer is not to experiment on a clients work.
With that said, I think that you could mount that painting onto a smaller piece of rag mount board with hinges and then mount the, 2 layer package, to a backing board.

Re: 1765 paintings on board and paper
My simple answer is that it is not appropriate to frame a historical painting circa 1750 in a tray frame. I have been in many "mid century modern" homes over the years with art collections. My father was an architect of that era. The owners of these homes used age appropriate frames for their "high ...

Re: Stiffening up the fence on my exising table saw.
My first thought is to use a carpenters square to align the fence to assure that it is truly square to the table and saw blade. Some locking mechanisms are just not that strong to repel the forces of you pressing against the fence with whatever you are cutting. The cheapest and easiest solution is t...

Have you tried a "seal coat" of glue for the end grain and reapply glue after for the final joint assembly?

Obeche wood by itself in an average strength wood. A miter joint is the weakest style of joinery. A lap joint would be much stronger. As for a glued and pinned miter joint, the joint is stronger that the end grain of the wood.

Re: Can I prepare rabbit skin glue in an electric egg poacher?
The simple answer is yes. Place the water/dry glue mixture that has set overnight in an empty and cleaned canned food tin so as it becomes a double boiler(bain-marie). Keep it in the boiling water until it mixes into a consistent condition. Caution, do not let the glue boil. It will reduce the stren...

The only way to solve the problem is to have a quantity of "back-up" images that can be swapped out when the fading is discovered to be a problem.

Re: Is it worth setting up or buying from a supplier
re: buying or making empty frames. It depends on how many frames you plan to make and sell. Buying a pre-made empty frame will cost more than length moulding. However, the investment in equipment is not there and you do not have to do the labor for cutting, assembly, QC, maintenance on the equipment...

There are 2 common types of oak.
One is named "white oak" and the other is "red oak". The red oak has a distinctive warmer color.
