Re: Float framing

I’ve also seen a highly professional framing company use acid-free loops behind the print to attach it to mountboard/foam board. Don’t know whether the GFA would approve if that though?

Re: Float framing

Very helpful. Thank you. I’ll check the strength of the tape that I use.

Re: Float framing

Thank you for your help. And finally, if just hinging from the top, is it acceptable to use archival linen tape rather than paper hinging tape as I’ve found that occasionally the paper hinging tape fails with heavier artwork? Many thanks.

Float framing

What is the best way to attach a 70cm x 50cm fine art print to conservation foam board when float mounting - other than using Roy Rowland’s technique? Many thanks

Re: Framing vinyl records and record sleeves

Ps did you buy Melinex corners or make them yourself? Which tape did you use to attach them at the back? Many thanks.

Re: Framing vinyl records and record sleeves

Looks great. I can’t actually see your melanin corners but did you make them yourself from a sheet? Also can’t see from the front how record is attached with your car trim panels. Can’t envisage them so I’ll google now to see what they look like!

Re: Framing vinyl records and record sleeves

Ps the customer actually suggested I cut the record to make it easier so the usual top priority of conservation framing is now balanced with framing it securely so it stays in place!

Re: Framing vinyl records and record sleeves

Thanks so much for your advice. I think attaching the record sleeve and record is complicated by having to have the record peeping out of the record sleeve and hence making a non- symmetrical shape. What ‘reversible adhesive’ would you recommend ? I guess another option for the record would be a dab...

Framing vinyl records and record sleeves

Hi Please can anyone advise on the best way to attach a record sleeve and vinyl record to a sheet of mount board. I'm not using a frame deep enough to use mirror screws to attach the record. Only half of the record is showing, peeping out of the record sleeve. The client does not want to play the re...

Removing grease stains from mountboard

Hi
I have a small grease/oil stain on a mount. I was told I could remove it using an iron, brown paper and lime juice. Does anyone know how much and how one should apply the lime juice? Or does anyone have an effective way of removing an oil/grease spot? Thanks,

Framing a single sheet of glass

Hi A customer has brought me a piece of glass with a picture etched onto it and would like it framed. Does there exist any piece of hardware that enables such an item to be framed in which you don't see the points behind holding it in. I originally thought of using spacer and points but that can be ...

Getting rid of marks on mountboard

Are there any top tips or techniques for getting rid of small marks on mount boards without affecting the surface of the board? Often on white mountboard, presumably formed in the manufacturing process, a tiny hair is visible just under the surface of the mountboard. 50% of the time I succeed in get...

Re: Cutting through foam board/mountboard

Apologies......just read through my post yesterday and of course I meant 7.5mm not 0.75. Sorry .

Re: Cutting through foam board/mountboard

Thank you so much everyone for your advice. Yes, it was 0.75mm and, as you suggested, I used my Stanley knife and scored it, followed by successive cuts rather than trying to cut it all at once and it did make a clean cut. For some reason, I feared it was going to be a ragged cut and bits of mountbo...

Re: Cutting through foam board/mountboard

Thanks for that advice David . I've just taken a really close look and realise that it is in fact just very thick mountboard and not foam board - almost .75mm thick of mountboard - that's going to be even tougher to trim isn't it?

Cutting through foam board/mountboard

Hi I need to trim half a centimetre off the top and a mere quarter of a centimetre off the sides of a foam board backed window mount which doesn't come apart. It measures just under .75mm. I've been told I should be able to do it with a Stanley knife with a fresh blade but am very nervous of trying ...
