I'm with Robo - use up your old stock of Daler Sepia and Bottle Green.

Re: Mount board info

Stock one or two neutral off white/creams only - when you want a coloured undermount, cut all the mount from one of the off whites and just simply paint the undermount bit. Saves massively on stockholding and space and means all your off-cuts are useable.

A Dewi Sant to you too. The three best ones too ! Would have preferred Cwm Rhonda - but what do I know.

Re: GCF qualification

Never succumbed to that Prospero. That was why I started finishing my own mouldings. That way I got exactly what I wanted, not what Arqamonoliasexline wanted me to have.

Re: GCF qualification

Then if it's a showcase of what you can do, it either has to be (a) simply a collection of complicated techniques - which most posessors of effective equipment will be able to achieve - and which will be of little interest to a framing customer, or (b) a tastefully executed and well presented exampl...

Re: GCF qualification

Bang on Grays. The job of a picture framer is to frame a picture. Surprising how many don't get it.

Re: GCF qualification

The FATG regularly holds framing competitions. I hate framing competitions. I've said before that what I and most people with reasonable taste recognise as the best framing would not win a framing competition. Mind you..... Back in my IBPF days, we did a few as well, much to my disagreement. After t...

Quote a price first - might save a lot of head scratching for us all. Could/should easily be in the several hundreds.

Never use staples to fix rosettes, as a horse kick in the goolies often offends.

Re: Can anyone identify this moulding

Websites then. Only way to compare directly, as really, only you can recognise it. It's not exactly distinctive, is it ?

Re: GCF qualification

Errr - Is that a yes or a no Stephen?
OK, make it easy - would you, Stephen Crozier, spinster of this parish, wish to be involved wholeheartedly in the creation of an organisation devoted to benefitting the picture framing industry ?

Re: GCF qualification

Guild and GCF apart Grays, would you be willing to put the time and effort into an organisation dedicated to the benefit of the trade as a whole, or would you want to be limited to shouting from the touchline after work ?

Re: GCF qualification

A point to bear in mind. I would suggest that, out of a picture framing industry as we know it, 100% know how to make a picture frame; but only about 35% can frame a picture.

Re: GCF qualification

Grays, I'm not saying whether the situation is either good or bad - I've been on the inside for a long time and know how much hard work is done by people who voluntarily give up a very great deal of their busy lives to TRY and work for the benefit of the industry. I started the thread on Standards t...

Re: GCF qualification

In the mid eighties, a group of high profile figures - and me, got together because we felt the Guild were not catering for the needs of framers - in short, more or less what's happening here. As it happened, there was a framing show at the time at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, so we booked the b...

Re: GCF qualification

Right. That's out of the way then. Now, how is it going to be improved - not just vague generalisations - firm workable suggestions on how to improve the image of GCF to new and established framers alike.
