Re: To a blanket???
I think that the fact that it says 'Trade only' on the tube is a sure sign that tradesmen don't use it - clearly its being marketted at DIYers who would like to think themselves to be in the know. Like when an airport contains the word 'international' in its name you know the only flights will be 18...

Re: To a blanket???
I've not used it myself, but a friend of mine swears by it for all manner of DIY tasks. (I don't believe it has an FATG conservation rating though!

Re: multi cut outs
Like everyone else says. The secret is to give it maximum attention and not attempt it first thing in the morning; just after lunch when you are also a bit dozy; or at the end of the working day when your mind wanders toward your evening. What I do is to mark each cut then mark the waste side of the...

Re: Chalk based or limewash paints
I totally agree with pretty much all of the above - and you're right NYAF - these customers are worth appealing to as they tend to be fairly recession-proof professional families - ideal target market at the moment ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
I must get myself some of those posh house paints!

Re: Butt jointed frames
That's beautiful work Bron. Welcome to the forum. I aspire to making hand-carved frames, but never seem to have the time to brush up on my long-forgotten carving skills - I did some when i was a kid, and i still have all the gouges i inherited off my dad - he was a woodwork teacher, and not exactly ...

Re: Chalk based or limewash paints
Thanks John I like it - very understated and harmonic These sorts of colours - especially the posh emulsion paint ranges - will appeal to... the sort that likes their walls done in the same colours. There's lots of them round here. Most have 3 wheeled all-terrain prams, tastefully colourful clothing...

Re: Glass size?
Glass delivery guys are STRONG! I can just about manage 5 sheets of 2mm 3'x4' all the way from the road(about 70 yards along the alley and into my place), and even then my forarms will ache for a while. One of the younger guys from G&M will happily carry 10 sheets like its nothing. What's real f...

Re: backing tape
it would look nice to seal the back with white tape I have a roll of tape which is basically like old-fashioned gum tape but white. I only use it on special occasions though - i bought it on holiday in Australia 8 years ago and have never found anything similar in the UK :Slap: I always use gummed ...

Re: Mounting large prints - HELP!!!
Affix two hinges approx 1/5th the way in from either edge In her book 'Conservation Mounting for Prints and Drawings(A manual based on current practice at the British Museum)' Joanna Kosek recommends that when using 2 T-hinges they should be a quarter of the width in from either side. The theory is...

Re: Glass size?
I find 6'x4' 2mm too scary to want to stock it - I don't have an upright cutter, and I've got storage space issues anyway. I just order cut to size when it's bigger. I miss the occasional over-size rush-job, but that's about once or twice a year, so no horror

Re: Furthest you have driven
It wasn't exactly in one day, but i once drove from Val D'Isere to Amsterdam in one stretch. We set off about 8 one morning and arrived about noon the following day. Its 1170km, so if you think that sounds a bit slow you'd be right - but we were in a 2CV, and we did have the alternator go on us some...

Re: Don't we just love customers
You ever get that? or is it just in this weird town. It's the same in London, even if the customer has paid a four-figure sum for a print by whichever current darling of the artworld their favourite style mag has told them to buy. So you want a hand-finished frame which will take me hours, but you'...

The only way to manage staff who are underperforming is to talk to them. You need to communicate with him, not with us.

Re: Decorative lines on mounts
I can't stand those Pilot pens - aside from the issue of them freaking out and blebbing everywhere, the lines bleed out a little(badly on some mountboard!) and look inferior, in my opinion. I've started using the Roberson Liquid Metal paints that Lion have started selling. Water them down slightly a...

Re: Underpinner problems
Trying to get 15mm wedges into hard oak is a little difficult, I have a CS88, and gave up trying to join any oak and ash frames on it long ago. Until i can afford a pneumatic underpinner that can cope with such work(and there's lots of things above it in the wish-list!) i join all the harder woods ...
