Newbie Advice - Best staining method, showing off the grain
Hi there, Off the back of advice I received here. I’m really happy with the results I’ve been getting from hand painting my frames. My confidence in that department is boosted! So thank you all. However, one technique I haven’t got to grips with yet and one I’m nervous about is staining barewood bla...

Re: Pricing App.
Hi Alan,
I'ver just attempted to try your app out, but I'm having the same problem. It says I do not have access to it.
Any way you can let me have a go?
Thanks

Glass vs Perspex - How big is too big for glass
Hi there, I’m in the process of make a box frame for an a0 piece (841 x 1188) - I’m wondering if there’s a rule of thumb of what size becomes too large to use glass or as long as you use 3mm thickness it doesn’t matter? Especially for a box frame as there won’t be as much support. Would anyone recom...

'Matching Spacers' - Barewood Spacer Supplier
Hi there, I'm hoping to make my first box frame with bare oak spacers to match the moulding, however I'm having trouble finding anywhere that stocks spacers that aren't ayous or similar. I see a lot of framers with matching spacers of various woods so and wondering if there's an obvious supplier I'm...

Re: Newbie Advice - Attaching a large print with no window
Ah thanks, some good tips. So it's size A0 and is quite a high quality glossy giclee print. (Reasonably thick) However, it isn't particularly expensive and could be replaced. It was just printed for framing (Although it has lived in a tube for a while) I definitely don't have the equipment or expert...

Newbie Advice - Attaching a large print with no window
Hi there, Still very new to framing so hopefully a simple solution. I've been given a very large (A0) photographic print and want to frame it edge to edge so with no window. How and whereabouts would I fix the print down so it doesn't warp / isn't loose in middle? Is there a standard practice for th...

Re: New to framing - Advice painting bare wood
As a first post, I think it's gone rather well - so thank you all for your advice :) On this occasion I think I'll paint and sand it with the grain showing through, it is a nice piece of ash I must admit. Then for future frames I'll experiment with Obeche. Is there a favourite supplier? I've only us...

Re: New to framing - Advice painting bare wood
Lots of good advice there, thank you. Interesting to hear your mention of Polyfilla, Jeremy. Can this be used as a substitute for a primer? Then crack on with the chalky emulsion after that? I have a bare ash frame from Lion (that I want to make white) I was planning on experimenting with this weeke...

New to framing - Advice painting bare wood
Hi all, I'm new to framing, having picked it up in the final lockdown, so please be gentle. So far I have been enjoying making bare wood frames, and am pretty happy with the results. However, I would now like to level up a little and begin to paint my frames. 1. I'm wondering if anyone could advise ...
