Re: Glass vs Acrylic
How much are we talking if you ordered from Wessex for example? How many other framers are there on the island and how do they manage? Could you team up with one or more to share shipping costs? It's a problem but it's your problem and the solution should not be to make your problem, the customers' ...

Re: Very deep box frame
One way I liked to create depth was with two wide flat mouldings joined with pocket hole screws. The lip of each frame forms two rebates, one can take a capping frame and the other can take backing/mounting boards. Only really good for plain woods that you're hand finishing though, to conceal the jo...

Re: Framing a record
I don't see any difference, bar a glass front, between this and a cabinet where you'd normally keep records. I've got far more valuable (to me anyway) stuff stored in a display cabimet.

Re: Framing a record
OK, in that case I'd make a front opening slip-over frame in this way....... https://www.theframersforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=76257 The record could sit on a spindle which could be made from anything, and then either a shelf or a couple of brackets underneath. Acrylic would be good for both spindle a...

Re: Framing a record
If the actual record is to be concealed, maybe don't frame it, just frame the cover. The record can be kept within any old cover.

We in the trade, called that a linen tester.
Here’s a thing I shoplifted from that side of our shop, extremely useful, especially for splinters!

Re: Do you all use some kind of software?
I think as long as it’s not Apple you’re fine
It’ll all be here and you can try the free version, which can be tailored to you and saved; you can’t do many things like order/customer history, print orders etc etc, but you can do a lot with screenshots

Re: Do you all use some kind of software?
I used FramR but I never paid for it, it was factored in to my overheads within its own software; my customers paid for it, just as they would have were it any other sofware ..... or anything else.

Use glue fairly liberally, not lightly Set up the angles of the fences with set squares etc by all means but to get things bang on, the left hand fence may need fine adjustment - use the widest flat moulding you can find and cut it upside down and tweak the fence in our out, fractionally. Make a sma...

It’s Nielsen who gave me 35% discount , on wood length.
25% on mountboard bar one colour (igloo) which was 30
I’ve just checked and it’s all still there but it looks like they’ve stopped my credit terms though!
If I was closer we could split the discounts!

We started as "Angmering Framing" we lived in Angmering and we did framing - say what it does on the tin, we thought. Took over a shop called "Stitches" - so we became "Angmering Framing & Stitches" and that's what it said above the shop window, "Angmering"...

Is it Larson Juhl? It's funny, I've been retired two and a half years and can still log in to every account I had and see discounted prices up to 35%, bar Larson Juhl. It's hard to give advice on this sort of situation without knowing a good bit about someone's business, what amount of consumables c...

I never took deposits either, well, I would, but didn't ask for them ...... most of the time, and I'm not sure I would in this situation (if I've understood it properly) either. If a large job had to be done in batches - and assuming I didn't have to order a load of stock many months in advance and ...

It's not in the grumble manual library unless I missed it, so it'll probably need someone to scan their own. TFG would be grateful for it.

Re: Fabric work top cover
I prefer something you can cut on, you can wipe clean and is disposable/sacrificial. Lino was good but eventually got wrecked and I ended up using grey board covered in gkass interleaving paper. The paper was changed at least once a day and the board maybe once a week, it had come from being used as...

Re: Mounting Japanese Paper?
Attaching to the window mount isn't what you should be doing and "the usual" acid free tape is probably dubious too. You should normally use an undermount, hinged to the window mount and that's what the artwork is mounted to. so that negates your acid free paper. It can be 'T' hinged and t...

Re: Do you mount to board or barrier?
Artwork should be mounted to an undermount and the thickness. and quality will depend on the level of framing, but it should be sturdy enough for the size of the frame. The stuff in your link is 600 microns which is flimsy. It may be OK as an additional barrier if acidic backing board is used but th...
