Outset - I also read ousted the first time I saw the word . And still thank you for your valuable information!
I’m going to follow your suggestion - simple dark wood knobs to blend with the finials.
So a good find for €17,35 including shipping? Assuming it arrives.

Re: What do you call this type of corner - and what is missing in the holes!
Thank you so much for the information! Maybe I’ll ask my partner to turn a few little dark wood “buttons” to put in the holes. Maybe mahogany or walnut would work. I discovered that on this side of the channel these corners are known as Flemish corners. Going to dive back into my research. Thank you...

What do you call this type of corner - and what is missing in the holes!
I’m going to repurpose this frame, but want to complete the missing bits. I’m not sure what to call the corners as I search. Ousted corner isn’t getting many results. I’ve seen one custom framer call them florentine frames but I think that was their shop specific name. I’ve also seen crowned corner ...

Re: 0000 Steel Wool Prices $26 vs $1
The website that I usually order from looks like they have a typo! 26 euros for .1 kilo should read for 1 kilo! That seems more reasonable. Thanks for the tip on the stencil brush for burnishing! I'll definitely give that a go. It seems very handy for getting into tight corners and around ornamentat...

0000 Steel Wool Prices $26 vs $1
I'm odering steel wool to polish the bole for watergilding. I usually buy from Labshop.nl. A really nice family run business, with fair prices on lots of material (champagne chalk (whiting), spike oil, rsg, etc. I did a google search on steel wool and through a woodworking website found the same wei...

Re: Greetings from the Netherlands
I found a lot of unfinished frames at auction. They were from a furniture manufacturer that went out of business. I believe they were intended to be used for mirrors. Looking at the backs they were joined from multiple pieces of straight moulding to rough in the arch. And then likely routed, maybe b...

Re: Greetings from the Netherlands
I adore tabernacle frames. But I’m afraid my frames are a little more plain. They’re simple frames with an arch at the top. Let me see if I can figure out how to add a photo. Greetings from the Netherlands
Hi. I’m an American ex-pat, living in the Netherlands. I worked as a framer for a few years in New York. We joined most of our frames by hand with a corner vise and a hand crank drill. The shop prided itself on using archival materials and the precision of the work. We did a lot of jobs for museums ...
