Re: Handfinishing course with a difference
Won't be able to make this one Mark, my birthday weekend! Enjoyed the last one though. The side bonus is meeting up with others over food and beer and discussing other stuff too. Bet it won't be as warm this time! Good luck with it.

Re: What is the best adhesive for hard ash mouldings?
Plus one for polyurethane glue. I always use it with oak too. There are many brands available from hardware stores. Have a play before you use it on a frame, it does expand, and remember to dampen the surfaces too. It also has a shelf life after opening.

Re: Clear or neutral
Osmo Polyx is excellent. Used it on a new oak banister rail at home. Lovely smooth satin finish, easy to clean and tough too.

Re: Joining Frames with Logan Joiner
When framing as a hobby I first had a Logan Pro. Could never get on with it at all. Took ages to use, very fiddly and rarely happy with results. Their cheaper option is a better bet I think. Word of caution though, they are not cheap. If you think you might get the framing bug, have a look on eBay f...

Re: Removing wax from paint
Thanks all. The test piece is fine this morning so I will go ahead on the made up frame. Interested to learn that the paint is probably water based. I found out recently that the paint on our car is water based. I thought that was the reason that it appears to scratch whenever someone looks at it in...

Removing wax from paint
Hello All. Have just completed framing four prints with Frinton Mouldings flat grey finished moulding http://www.frintonmouldings.com/product1588.html Having just completed the backs of all of them and turned them over, I have seen a small amount of Black Bison wax on the surface of one. Careless. J...

Re: Variation on a theme
Accepting to comment from Prospero re mount size, I think the one on its own looks the best. I would prefer the badges etc in a frame on their own to hang nearby. I think too many framed items look too busy these days, especially with CMC's.

Re: White Oak Handrail
Thanks for the Osmo Polyx recommendation. Worked a treat on the banister.
Feels just like wax. I will definitely use it on frames in the future. Slightly different shade to neutral wax but very effective and much quicker.

Re: Moulding storage.
I store moulding in a garage. Temperature much as you say. It is stored vertically and I don't seem to have a problem. I figured that it is stored pretty much the same as it is where I buy it from. There is a large warehouse where the doors are continually being opened and closed so it is cold in th...

Re: White Oak Handrail
Thanks for that. I have used the Osmo UV protection oil on oak outside and it works a treat, like sun cream for wood. I have some shelves to do as well so I guess it would work on them too.

White Oak Handrail
Hello All. A bit off topic but related as it is about hand finishing a wooden banister rail. I'm doing a bit of renovation (DIY really) at home at the moment part of which includes replacing the banister, newel and stair rods. The hand rail is supplied unfinished in white oak and looks lovely. My qu...
