large canvas for stretching

A large canvas came in today (rolled up, all the way from Sri Lanka). It is 7ft x4 ft and needs stretching. The owner removed the frame when bought so he could get it home and I'm quite looking forward to the challenge. I'm plannig on constructing the frame using pine, possibly 70mm x 25mm with 1/4 ...

Re: Framing Football Shirts

Hand stitch through the foam, shirt (at seams no as not to make visible holes) and board. Pre-drill the board to make it eaisier to push the needle through. I use small buttons on the foam and board to make sure the thread doesn't pull through. It's a bit fiddly at first but you soon get used to it.

Mounting Photographs

I am starting to get more requests for the framing of photographs, until now window mounts and t-hinges have been fine, however I am thinking it may be time for the next investment in equipment so I am looking at photo mounting to give me more options and wider customer choice. I have to admit I am ...

Cow Biscuit

A new A&T mouldings brochure dropped through the front door the other day. Always nice to see what new moulding may be on offer. On page 18 I noticed a new one; Cow.biscuit. I showed it to my wife who showed me a real biscuit, my daughter loves them! More to the point, the biscuit was printed to...

Limited and open edition prints.

I've had a customer ask me about limited edition prints as a Christmas gift but I had nothing to show to her! What would be the best source of prints for both open and limited editions? I’m a garage framer so don't have a shop but do have some display space for some examples, so some example open ed...

Re: Looking for upright feet or holders for box frame

They are quite expensive but how about some of those brass firescreen feet and some suitable size/depth moulding, cut and joined back to back, leaving a gap all round the inside where the rebates meet, like a squared off 'U'. The 'U' would be fitted into the firescreen feet as normal but the open to...

Re: Exchange Rates

40% of uk exports are into the eurozone which is a weak market so exports are lower which means less profit for uk buisness and therefor lower tax revenue for the government so the pound is less attractive so it is devalued. or something like that.

Re: Mainline Mouldings Website - 3d Image of Frames

It’s a nice feature but what most suppliers could do with concentrating on is the ability to allow us search against the various attributes of a molding; say I want a wood, brushed gold, 25-30mm wide with a 12mm or deeper rebate and no scooped back. At the moment I have to browse through dozens of a...

Re: Village Hall stall

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have two village craft fairs on the same weekend and a third in December. I like the idea of framed vintage postcards and have bought some on ebay already (2-3 quid each). So have lined up; framed vintage postcards, name letter mount examples, mounts in standard siz...

Giclee printing

A friend of mine who is an amateur artist has asked about giclee printing. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to go about the copying and printing of works on paper and canvas for a limited run of prints? Is scanning a sensible way ahead or is it possible to have it done online from photographs...

Re: Float mounting in deep shadow box.

Well I completed the frame and the customer (an artist) was delighted. In the excitement I forgot to photograph it, but I'll get the chance again because it will be hanging in the Usher Gallery in Lincoln for the next three months. The final frame was 860 x 760 x 10cm deep box frame. I made up my ow...
