Re: Cutting spacers

SteveN I find that if you cut them as if making another small frame to slide in, you can't attach any DS tape and on larger frames sometimes the top rail sags down. It's a bit like you wouldn't chop the mountboard to be snug inside a frame because it's best if it has a bit of space to breath and flu...

Re: Cutting spacers

Ok I'm going to attempt to explain my method. The spacers I use are 4mm wide (1288 by rose and hollis) So I set the measure on the morso to 4mm smaller than the glass size. Chop the spacer with the sight edge facing you. Then using a piece of spacer thats an inch or 2 long put it in one of the corne...

Re: Can anyone cut this

Could you get in touch with the distillery and see if they have a spare of the piece of packaging?

Re: Walnut.

Rose and hollis, I got as far as enquiring about the cost to get a batch of sw3850 in walnut and the price they came back with was brilliant. Keep meaning to order some samples of the Arqadia range, which uses veneers, think it might be called Touchwood. Though I'd rather use solid than a veneer.

Re: Walnut.

That looks lovely. In the last 12 months my sales of walnut have gone through the roof. Shame there isn't more profiles available, planning on getting 2 or 3 profiles made up.

Can't make out the photo very well but star shaped would suggest they are torx screws which have a 6 pointed star.

Re: Pocket hole jigs

I love my pocket hole jig, use it all the time. On large frames I use ply as a subframe, joined together with pocket hole jogs, though if you've got a biscuit joiner I guess you would use that.

48MM deep tray profile

I'm looking for a obeche tray profile which is 10mm on the face and 48mm deep on the outside. Annoyingly it's to match a frame I made a year or so ago but no idea where I got the moulding from or if I adapted an existing. Of course it was a job where very few notes were made at the time :head:

Re: Framing a mount less poster

Think its very easy to take conservation too far. The customer has said what they want, specifically to match existing. I think its important to make sure that you are not appearing to be too pushy with the conservation side of things and coming across as trying to upsell. Simply inform them of the ...

Wow, I've never seen something eat glass before; it must have quite some teeth, let alone digestion.
I grew up in the North, and knew a few characters who would take a bite out of there pint glass.

Fabric frames

A few years ago I found a brilliant website for a framer that does fabric wrapped slips and frames. I seem to remember on the website they gave instructions and tips for doing this. For some reason I think he may have been Australian...or South African, definitely not english. Does this ring bells w...

NYAF they are also availble from rutlands http://www.rutlands.co.uk/sp+woodworking-hand-tools-clamps-vices-corner-clamps-spring-mitre-clamp-kit-rutlands+dk7018 and 10 quid cheaper. It would be great to find somewhere that just sold the springs as having 10 sets or so would be great for when busy. Th...

Re: Tarnishing silver leaf gilding

Once the desired effect has been achieved, how do you stop it going further? Do you wash it down then seal it as normal? Or will it tarnish to a certain level then stop tarnishing anymore?
