Re: Large aperture mount!
Try Wessex - they’ve got a very large CMC that cuts jumbo boards - you can probably have it sent on a regular van delivery run

Re: Paperweights?
I use offcuts of glass. Take eight pieces of 8cm square glass and cover in handy wrap and you have a cheap and easy paperweight. If it gets tatty, just wrap it again. I keep a range of these handy and they are ideal for jobs like float mounting and hinging. Ideal way of using up scraps of glass you'...

I think at that size I'd be speaking to Wessex about acrylic - would certainly help with the weight.

Thanks for looking this out - much appreciated. I’d like to try and find a plain one if I can - I’ll keep looking - early days!

Wanted - moulding display tower
Good afternoon all -
Does anyone have a moulding display tower they're looking to sell? Ideally within reasonable distance of the South Coast if possible.
Many thanks
Jonathan

Re: Annual Stock Take
Gavin - my accountant asks me to count everything, including consumables, wrapping, tape and anything else used in the business. Don’t get too hung up on counting every last screw. I just estimate what’s left to the nearest 10% and leave it at that. I found it a bit of a pain at first but once you’v...

Re: Trading..
I can see that if you are a genuine trade supplier then there is no reason why you should not continue to operate normally provided you are closed to the public and are just sending out by carrier or post and I know that some members fall into this category. My personal view is that retail framing i...

Re: Yet again pricing
If you're not yet ready for a full pricing programme the Wessex framers pricing app is excellent. Runs on any android device and has all the Wessex lines pre-loaded. For other suppliers it's very quick and easy to obtain a moulding code via the app and make sure that your pricing is consistent. For ...

Re: How's it hanging?
I've had a lot of success with these sawtooth hangers from Lion. They retain the load at the side rails of the picture, remove the need for cord, keep the picture flush against the wall and prevent the picture moving once it's displayed. They're not for every situation, but they work really well wit...

Justin -
There's a video on YouTube about these machines - tried to paste a link but the tech defeated me - search 'Cassese 299mxl 199mxl' and you'll find it. I suggest watching with the sound down - worst music track ever!

Re: Cassese cs199 vs cs299
Hi Justin - I've got a 299 ultra, which I bought about a year ago, and I've been so pleased with it. It's built like a tank and is incredibly robust. I think Jayvee is right, in that the 199 has fixed fences and the 299 has the multi position fences that allow you to adjust the back of the moulding ...

Re: deep walnut "box Moulding"
Try Lion ‘Exhibit’ - L1400, comes with a matching spacer L1402. I’ve used it before and it cuts and joins well. Deep rebate at 48mm will hopefully be enough.

Re: 'Canvas' stretching
Parm - I think Nick's suggestion of treating it like a piece of needlework is a good one. Assuming the rebate of the frame you're planning to use will accommodate it, you might consider using 10mm foam board as a useful support. It doesn't readily bend, is very strong and supportive and will allow y...

Re: which Air Compressor,
Bought a Bambi BB24D a while ago to run my underpinner and a couple of air tools. Very impressed - really well made machine and more than up to the job. Shop around on the internet and you should be able to find a good deal.

Martin - having done some training with Lyn at Fringe Arts, I can't recommend her highly enough. Whoever ends up paying the bill, it will be time well spent.
Good luck

Sorry - should have made it clear - a stapler is exactly what you're after. It's a different way of fixing rather than using points and is much more adaptable.

Re: Point drivers
Mine's a 4097-16 (page 38 Lion catalogue). I bought mine second hand and it's worth seeing if you can find one. Lion will strip down and service an Omer gun and they say they last for ever. My gun was made in 2001 and is still going strong. I think a service through Jack Siwinski at Lion is about £7...

Re: Point drivers
I had the same problem and swapped to an Omer pneumatic gun some time ago. The points are a fraction of the cost, fire easily into hardwood and it’s very handy to be able to fire points through the edge of the backing board into a narrow moulding to give a frame much more strength. It’s been a good ...

Re: Self-adhesive picture hangers
Trouble with these things is that people think that they're sticking to the wall, when in fact they're just sticking to the painted surface or the wallpaper. You've only got to look at the way a blu tacked poster sometimes pulls a section of paint away from the wall to realise that this is a bad ide...

Re: Is plexi UV as good as UV glass?
As Prospero suggests there are lots of pitfalls when discussing various sorts of glazing. Might I suggest you give David Palmer a call at Wessex Pictures in Leatherhead? He's an acknowledged authority on glazing and will be able to give you good advice before you spend a lot of money on something th...
