Critiquing a piece of framed work.
This is a C1980 aquatint of mine that I reframed. When I'm framing for myself I find designing a lot more difficult, but try to shake things up a bit from my usual styles. I'm rarely 100% happy with my own pieces once their done and would appreciate some critique from anyone willing. I know what I d...

Re: How much space and where is the middle?
That's an interesting example. My brain says top one. There are four subjects to look at. The bottom photo directs my eye straight to the middle of the backs of the centre two birds.

Re: I Wish I'd Framed That.
Pramsay, that's really interesting that you see it as old fashioned. Do you work with artists much? Ime printmakers photographers still often prefer a minimal frame for gallery display. They are probably also aware that skinny is cheaper...

Re: I Wish I'd Framed That.
I agree about the generous mount. The proportions look great, spot on and for once I really like the bottom weighting. Unfortunately I think that I give customers too much say in the final mount dimensions, often to the detriment of the finished piece. My retail customers tend to be shy about it, wh...

Re: Most suitable boxes/packaging for this deep box frame
This FedEx box is the same style that Nielsen send out their samples in. I still wouldn't use it for glass, but suspending the frame like this has worked fine for sending out acrylic glazed pieces.

Re: Framing Medals
Thanks Jo, I hoped you'd drop in. As for hanging the medals, I know it sounds crude, but I'm wondering about passing cable ties on their side through the mount, tails fixed to the back of the mount. I guess once I have the medals in my hand I'll know. Anything else I need to remember to ask the cust...

Re: Framing Medals
Thanks Steve YPF, great visuals, the front mount should hide any mount wear and tear over the years of removal. Pramsay, yes I agree, removable back this time although I'm dying to try the double frame magnets one day. Invisible hooks/loops are on my research list now. I'll update when I find someth...

Re: Best method of cleaning up the back of this frame
Roboframer recently suggested using a correx fluted board when using wires. Remove some of a channel of fluting(?) on the back, pass the wire through the board and silicone the wire into the chanel. Pop your backboard on et voila!

Framing Medals
Looking for ideas, for framing some medals and a photo. Frame needs to open for removal of medals when they are needed to be worn. Initially thinking of a removable back rather than a hinged frame to keep it simple. For holding the medals, I have got as far as mylar loops as a possibility. This is r...

What was the Chinese restaurant called Mark? You never know, I may have visited it myself in the past, we could compare notes on our favourite dishes and what cologne the waiter was wearing.

Re: The Joy of Sharing Skills.
It's a 1922 Dietzgen ruling pen. I expect someone has used it before me! Anyway, it's all part of my cunning plan to find the jobs that my Wife will love doing. If it involves a pen or a blade she's in, although saying that it has taken me a few years to persuade her to try washlines, but she loves ...

Thanks Jo
Yes Dermot, a couple of sad looking prints in for a remount. It's a win-win as it's not a part of the job that I particularly enjoy, whereas Erica really loved it!

The Joy of Sharing Skills.
This morning we agreed that I would give my Wife some washline training. The actual training only lasted about 5 minutes as she couldn't wait to get her hands on my 1922 Deitzgen ruling pen. One image is her practicing, the other is here completing some wash lined mounts for me about an hour later. ...
