Re: How many mouldings do you offer?....
When I started framing commercially in 2015, I can see from my original web site that I had less than 100 frame samples. Very helpfully I’d been given a list of the top 150 frame styles by a mouldings supplier, and I chose my initial set of samples mostly from that list, with a few others that I lik...

Re: How many mouldings do you offer?....
If its worth framing, it's worth framing well... If we do it cheap, someone's going to have to fix the mess one day... I'm sorry Mark, but since Justintime can't leave it alone, I have to take issue over him saying that the method I'm planning to use for this particular job means that it won't be w...

Re: How many mouldings do you offer?....
Fair enough, although Mark put it better than me when he said "a framers preferred method may vary according to the requirements deemed by that framer to be most suited to the needs of that particular job". This job is for an elderly couple so without wishing to be morbid, it doesn't need ...

Re: How many mouldings do you offer?....
Rainbow, I would never attach the artwork to the mount. Normally I don't, as I said, but needs must, and to use mountboard as the undermount is simply too thick for this particular moulding and obviously I can't attach it to the barrier sheet. And as I said, it's a photoprint, not of any value what...

Re: How many mouldings do you offer?....
Re how many mouldings, I have a stock of over 250 samples. This is a lot less than some framers, but the main thing is that it suits my way of working. I don't try to be "all things to all men" so I don't need to stock samples for every type of framing job there ever might be. I'm happy wi...

Re: How many mouldings do you offer?....
Hello Dan, and a belated welcome to the forum from me :) Re rebates, I've got a job in where the customer asked for a very narrow frame, which has a very small rebate. Fortunately it's only an A4 photo print plus mount so it won't be heavy. Even so, I don't think it will comfortably fit into the reb...

Welcome Jim :) Also have a look at The Framing Oracle (see the top of the left hand column). And reading back threads of this forum will give you an idea of some of the factors to take into account, and pitfalls to look out for. I've seen some members say that they've read every thread of the forum ...

Re: Ltd. Company
I suppose my biggest worry is if something happened to me and I was tied in and committed to paying out on the lease rental and having our house liable if we got in to financial difficulties. I would suggest looking into critical illness insurance in case you become too ill to work, and life insura...

Re: Backing a print
I'm only against using self adhesive board in this particular case. Kev stated he is a complete beginner so I thought it best he doesn't attempt to use SA board on an original print particularly of the given size. Ah, I see, thanks. I found this Youtube clip useful when first using self-adhesive bo...

Can I ask what you've got against it, as I've used it occasionally, with the customer's agreement. Is it because it's not a reversible method?David McCormack wrote: Step away from the self adhesive board

Picture lights
One of my customers has a large traditional painting which has an ornate dark frame like burnished antique copper. The picture itself is quite dark and there are no ceiling lights, so they've been trying to find some suitable picture lights but without success. They've only been able to find modern ...

Re: Selling artwork
Customers that do call in for framing say they had no idea I had so many pictures for sale Probably because it's not mentioned anywhere on your web site that you sell pictures. On other framers' web sites where they sell pictures, they typically have artists' profiles, images of their work, news of...

Secol V-mount strips. They were recommended to me soon after I joined this forum and I've found them invaluable for certain jobs.

Re: Portrait on Pastel
What about using V-strips to hold the artwork flat, and creating a slight gap by fixing some mountboard (or foamboard) to the undermount?

Re: Removing glass stuck to picture?
negative outcomes don't help your reputation That's a very good point, Mark, thanks. What the customer would remember is that [at best] you didn't succeed, or [at worst] you made it worse than it was before, no matter how much you warned them of that possibility beforehand. why take the the job on ...
