Re: Bugs in frames?

If you want to identify them, the Royal Entomological Society offer a free identification service. They'll need a good close-up photo and any other information you can give.

Re: Liquid Metal Metallic Paints

Although this does not refer to mettallic finishes... Sorry, Mark, but I don't think off-topic posts are at all helpful, particularly when they're very long and rambling. I'm afraid they're more likely to put people off. You used to be a moderator so I'm surprised to see you indulging in off-topic ...

Re: Mountboard Companies

I get the impression that you’re using an “own brand” board, with you talking about changing supplier rather than manufacturer, is that right? Or are you using a printing/photographic supplier, so you're not sure whose board it is? I'm just a bit confused with you talking about changing "suppli...

Excellent, thank you both. I've got permission from the customer to go ahead with the tape and I've ordered it.

Re: Slight tear in the paper

Wish I could, fitz, but unfortunately the artist's signature is right at the edge so extending the mount would cover up part of the signature :(

Slight tear in the paper

I've got a job which is a print, ready mounted (although I'm doing a new mount). The paper has a slight tear in it, about 1cm visible and then running under the mount. As it's only a print and not of any real value, it's not worth sending to a restorer but I'm wondering if it's worth trying to do so...

Re: Advice Appreicated

Welcome scameron77. Can you tell us approximately what quantity you envisage cutting (eg per week/month). Some machines are better suited to volume cutting than others, but if you don't envisage doing large volumes, a lower spec model will probably be OK and it will cost you less money.

Engraver-cutters

One of my friends has bought an engraver-cutter, to do some [not-framing-related] jobs for himself. He’s asked if I would find it useful for anything to do with picture framing. It will cut through up to 3mm thick, as well as cutting grooves. I’m not sure what the possibilities are for mounts or fra...

The red spacer is creative and offbeat, so it suits the subject matter and enhances rather than distracts.

Re: Critiquing a piece of framed work.

I like the darker mount on top, I think it makes it look more dramatic. I also like the fact that it's a solid mount so there's no distracting white bevel.

Re: Best method of cleaning up the back of this frame

Hi Dave, would this work.... - Start again. - Use a plain backboard to glue the wire to, not a backboard with a hanger. - Lengthen the wire, so that you can use a spacer but instead of it going over the glue blob and causing a bump, the spacer sits over the wire, so that the glue blob is below the l...

Re: sizing issue

Something similar happened to me a few weeks ago. The customer said she wanted a frame for a mirror that was X by Y. To me, a mirror meant the mirrored glass element, but a mirror to the customer meant the whole thing, frame an' all. Fortunately I saw the item before quoting so thankfully there wasn...

Re: Workshop snacks and refreshmemets.

Possibly try Nurafen Plus*, which is ibuprofen + codeine. It's quite expensive compared with unbranded ibuprofen, but as I say, it has codeine in it. I find the Nurafen Plus much more effective than paracetamol. * Assuming it doesn't interfere with any other medication you may be taking, but the pha...

Re: Oversized ready made frames.

Realistically, how many people are going to be passing (and stopping to peruse) your shop window, in what you've said is an increasingly quiet town, which is coming to the end of the summer tourist season, and who are wanting a 30" x 40" frame, in the style/colour you've chosen, and who wa...
