Re: What do you listen to when working?

Vintage frames, do you have any phone signal?

I recently updated my sim only account with tesco mobile to 60gb of data - £12.50 per month. I can stream stuff all month and only use about 25gb.

What do you listen to when working?

Carrying on from Rainbow's good idea. I was wondering what you listen to in your workshop/shop? I guess in a shop you need to be a bit more sensitive to customers coming in. The reason i ask is because it gets boring listening to the same thing all the time and so maybe there are stations worth givi...

Re: The Forum’s 7000th member

A quick question for Justintime. When you post a query on facebook and get a quick reply, do other members of that group get a notification that a query has been asked? I am not social media savvy so don't know if people can get notifications specifically from a group. I turn off all notifications i...

Re: Energy companies

Apologies Rainbow, i was chatting about someone with my wife called Steve as i was just finishing typing and typed Steve instead of Rainbow!

I turned 50 last week so it appears i am going senile already!

Still a great post😁

Re: Energy companies

I switched a while back to Bulb and we are still with them although i believe Octopus are buying them from the government so we will become Octopus When we first switched, we were getting 9p kwh for electricity. Now i think it is closer to 33p. My only issue with Bulb was they would put up your dire...

Re: The Forum’s 7000th member

I am not sure if it is just me, but one of the things that i enjoy about framing (and joinery) is that i am happy working on my own. Not all framers work on their own, but the job is one where you concentrate on your own job. Compare this when i am on site, say an extension, there is constant chatte...

Thanks Bobble, just looked and also on Audible for anyone who listens to audiobooks whilst working.

It has a pretty decent review on there.

Cheers

Re: Spraymounted drawing

I have had similar in the past quite a couple of years back and it hasn't had any ill effects yet. I go several times a year to do jobs for the customer and check it every time and saw it about 2 months back. What does make me chuckle is that was the only thing i framed for her and is the only one f...

Re: Framing tools - great other uses

Dermot - what timber is the window? If it is a hardwood, that would explain the cracking paint. The tannins in hardwood will cause most paints to flake off over a relatively short period of time. Old paints contained lead which acted as a barrier. Aluminium primer is now used on hardwood, or the lin...

Re: Framing tools - great other uses

The door is redwood so primer is zinnser 123, topcoat is dulux weathershield. You can get any colour including F &B colours mixed in weathershield paint. The weather board is iroku so has had an aluminium primer on first. I have recently been using linseed oil paint on some hardwood windows whic...

Framing tools - great other uses

Thought i would share this to show that the morso and underpinner can be useful for other jobs. I machined those mouldings on this door, put in a reverse rebate so they sat over the door rails and stiles. These were cut on the morso and pinned making life much easier. What it made me think was for p...

I really like that. Happily have it over a tree at home but think kids may out vote me on that.

Re: Car leasing

My business vehicle insurance is cheaper than my personal car, both about the same value and annual millage. I have no claims discount etc for both. I leased business vehicles for years on 3 year contracts on my accountants recommendation. Monthly payments offset against tax and 50% vat back. Last y...

1/2 inch router bits for sale

Hi all, I thought i would see if anyone on here is interested in these first. Anyone who has a router table or is thinking of getting one, these would be a useful way into either making your own mouldings or making changes to existing ones. There are 19 here including straight bits, a flush bit, a c...

Re: Making your own Mouldings

That is what i was told by the guys who service my machines. They failed my old wadkin radial arm saw which took about 40 seconds to come to a stop and said 10 seconds is legal requirement. From the H & S rules "New woodworking machines should all come fitted with some form of braking where...

Re: Making your own Mouldings

Hi Dermot, Yes, it does not take much to get going. The other point will be that if you buy decent 2nd hand kit, if you did find it was not for you, you can sell and pretty much get your money back. Spindle moulders like Kity, startrite and similar hold their values much as morsos do. One thing to a...

Re: Making your own Mouldings

Hi Dermot, Very useful information. As you mention, like Timh, i machine my own mouldings. It was initially by accident that i took this direction as i agreed to make some very large frames (4m x 3m) and purchased some basic machinery like you posted. Things developed from there and my setup is diff...
