Re: What a great customer!

It must be the right time of year for these customers, so J2M I reckon you are due yours Monday too! We work from a Barn we rent from the farm. I went for a cigarette (I have to go just outside the yard to smoke). Opposite is a holiday rental cottage. Got chatting to the couple who gave me 6 prints ...

Re: "You will provide a pastel trap, won't you....." WHAT??

With a pastel, the smallest knock will result in tiny bits of pastel dropping onto your fresh clean mount, so you basically need to raise that slightly so that any pastel that drops, goes behind the mount. I use a thin strip of mount board to create a small void for it to drop clear and keep the act...

Hi all, Following a sort out, we have 3 Light Grey Bisley low filing cupboards with tambour doors for sale. Only just over 6 months old and in excellent condition, these retail at £240 each. Looking for only £75 each to clear them out. Great chance to tidy all that paperwork. We also have 3 4 drawer...

Re: sending glazed pictures abroad

Still make sure that you tape the glass just in case. At least if it breaks, it will not damage the painting/print. We send 100's of paintings abroad each year. After taping the glass, we bubble wrap, then put blue foam corners, then a good fitting double walled box. If the painting has a big value,...

Re: Mountboard storage bench for sale

Hi,

If this is still available, I will happily take it off your hands for £50.

I won't be able to collect until early next week, we are only down in Bath, so not too far, but I am delivering furniture to customers (other direction unfortunately) and picking up new stuff from auctions.

Cheers

Re: Commercial Framers vs Conservation Framers

I have been following these threads regarding conservation framing and commercial framers with interest having been a business consultant in my previous life and it seems to raise the issue that framers whose business deals with large volume framing orders cannot produce the same quality of work as ...

Re: Wanted_Keencut Ultimat Gold 48*

The Ultimat Gold's go for more than £400 on ebay even with a 99p start price, so I reckon that is as good a price as you will get for a second hand one. Anything less, and I would be wondering what's wrong with it.

Cheers

Re: THE UK's FINEST PICTURE FRAMER ?

It turns out that I shouldn't have said that I was "Finer than the Finest Picture Framer". Someone attempted to break into our house last night, presumably to try to find my certificate so they could claim the above.

We have a big sign like that outside our place which says:

"Finer than the UK's finest picture framer."

I had wondered who was number 2.

Re: Euro underpinner 9000

I use a euro 9000, and I love it. Like any machine, it took at while to get to grips with, but I make perfect frames with any moulding I use. If you want any specific details, you can pm me and I will be happy to help, or I am happy to give you a call. by the way, I have had mine for almost a year, ...

Re: End of cheque guarantee cards - Do I need a card termina

Being a commercial framer I do very little over the counter which warrants a machine but I still get some cheques. So this is a bit of a dilemma do I get a machine and make more customers pay by card and drop their credit accounts, or do I just accept cash and credit accounts? Might improve cash fl...

Re: framing stained glass

Hi Heather, I did a couple of these 2 weeks ago, I used a solid oak frame with a deep rebate (available in Bristol to pick up). This was the customers choice, but any frame with a deepish rebate should be fine. The finished job looked excellent, and more importantly, the customer was happy. If you w...

Hi there, You should be able to get a good second hand machine for under £400. As someone who started framing only a year ago, the mistake I made was thinking at first that cheaper machines would do the job. I started framing for friends and very quickly found the limitations of cheap equipment and ...

Hi Tim, I tape all mine as we are prone to the little thunder flies down near bath and I would be getting all the frames back from my customers to sort out if I did not tape them. I am not sure of the correct method, I place the side I am doing just over the edge of my bench, but I have not noticed ...

Re: Mount cutter bench...

Hi Paul, I would not make the bench the height to suit the Morso. I am 6'3" and the height of the morso was back breaking for me, so I raised the morso. If you buy a morso, you may well get the left arm support and if not, it is easy enough to get adjustable roller stands to support longer moul...

Thanks to Mitreman for the link, I have spoken with Pete and it has been very helpful. I will also be booking some of the training courses which I believe you run. I am doing a lot of box framing, but most of my business is 19th century watercolours and oils, so I hope to see you soon.

Re: Speed-mat wall mount cutter blades

Thanks Framemaker and Mitreman for such a quick response. I will give Pete a call. I got slightly confused as to whether there was a difference between Speed-mat and smart-mat when researching the machines, as they do seem the same. It is a cracking bit of kit and as I cut a lot of mounts for maps w...
