Re: Enlightening?

I replaced an old type lightbulb in one of my daughters bedrooms a week or two back. Thought I would be environmentally friendly and buy a energy saving bulb.

Lasts for 10,000 hours it said on the packet. Had gone in three! (and no it was not connected to a dimmer switch).

Would you advise against this?

I have a (potential) customer who has come in with a B/W photo printed on canvas with an image area of 750 x 545mm. What he would like me to do is: Stretch canvas and frame using Simons COSM/0010 black laquer finish moulding with a narrow 1/2" silver inner moulding used a a liner/slip. BUT he w...

Re: Colourmount 3984 Cameo.

Colourmount chevrons supplied by them are stamped out without a bevelled edge. The stamping process might account for the texture not matching. I spoke to the marketing manager at Colourmount last year asking when the would go over to bevel cut samples but they were not interested preferring to have...

Re: Cold in the workshop

Yes, I used to get glass delivered on a Monday morning and was having problems in the cold weather. I then realised the supplier was loading the van on Friday afternoon and it stood in the van over the weekend. To overcome this I would take the first sheet and leave it on the Keencut with a fan heat...

Re: Framing a relay baton

David (Wilkie) sent me a picture of the complete frame a part of which he has posted above.

Perhaps if you PM him he might do the same for you. I had just done his one day course at Lion though but he is a nice bloke and am confident he will share with you.

Re: Framing a relay baton

Lion do "Optically Clear Polyester Film" Catalogue No. 7595 I did an Olympic baton a while ago and used a floater type moulding as you would if putting a panel in but then used another normal moulding in the same finish stacked inside to give the necessary depth. The frame was black so use...

Could it be something to do with this? http://metro.co.uk/2013/01/14/london-underground-passengers-brave-cold-weather-on-no-trousers-day-3351114/ Check out the third photo! The guy in the pink underpants with the skate board looks like he is a bit exited :? Then take a look at the two people seated.

Photoshop for Free!

Want a free version of Photoshop? Adobe are giving it away! Too good to be true? Well, yes in a way as it is only Photoshop CS2 which was released in 2007 and the current version is now CS6 But if like me you are running Windows XP and have been using Photoshop Elements then why look a gift horse in...

Cold where you are? or in shorts!

I am at home today as we close Mondays. We had a couple of inches of snow overnight and as I sit here looking out the window waiting for more to fall the postman is walking down the street IN SHORTS!!!

I will not be going this year as there seems to be less to see with each passing year. Last year I went for the day but was struggling to find what to do next by lunchtime. A few years back we went for Sun/Mon stayed overnight and went out for a meal or did the social thing with other forum members....

Re: Moulding display on your website

I tried this at one time and it was a complete pain. You will find the images from different suppliers differ in resolution and size so you will be fiddling around trying to make them all appear similar. Then you will find you add new mouldings and discontinue some so more fiddling around to keep it...

I often do mounts for IKEA frames and frequently while customers wait which gives them a chance to browse and get to know what we do. Cutting a mount takes little time and if they are budget concious I steer them towards the mount boards I buy in bulk. If frame prices come into the conversation you ...

Re: How much memory?

Big problem with computers is the virtual monoply Microsoft has over operating systems. Every computer I have owned (PC i.e. Microsoft based) has slowed down after a few years and has had to be replaced. Each new version of their operating system requires more memory and faster processors and so the...

Re: Lion polyester film

I bought a roll of this recently and the first part of the roll was very scratched and had to be binned. Inspect closely before use and be prepared to discard the first bit on the roll. Price was OK though so not complaining.
