I would like to know how they deliver. If they use the same carriers as their mouldings I can see us ordering 5 pieces and getting it delivered in 500 pieces.

Re: Canvas Mount
Slater & Harrison do a linen mountboard in their Colourmount range in 4 colours. I am sure they or your supplier would send you some samples if you asked. I think we have a few odd pieces lying around that came with some plan chests we bought from a retiring framer. Always meant to find a job to...

Re: How do you deal with cold callers
Telephone Preference Service is the way to go but you have to be patient for a few weeks. I had the same when we moved into new premises. The one to watch out for is the "We are calling from The Meter Authority" which is a scam whereby they try to get your meter details by asking for the n...

I would say stitch it as well. If you use a blunt needle it is possible to work the needle between the fibres thus causing no damage.

Re: A Little Marketing Help For A Virgin Framer!
I think pretty much everybody needs a website these days as they act as a kind of billboard. First of all, I think, set up a basic website with; who, what, where, when etc. but make sure it gets picked up by the search engines. A website can be up and running for £19.99 with nothing further to pay f...

Re: How to answer an artist who wants to do her own framing?
I did not say bad art. I was referring to value which is a different thing. Yes, Johnnies skool scribblings are art and they have sentimental value. I would say in most cases pieces artists sell do not have sentimental value otherwise they would not part with them. I am married to an artist, that's ...

Re: How to answer an artist who wants to do her own framing?
What exactly defines an artist? There are artists and there are artists. Someone who goes along to a group and enters a few pieces in the annual exhibition is an artist and Jack Vettrianio (probably not a good example but lets not worry about that at the moment) is an artist. What I think I am sayin...

Re: Problem with Morso F
This adjustment amongst other Morso tips used to be in the Lion catalogue on a page written by Pete Bingham but it was left out of the last edition. I kept my old one for reference as I spotted it before chucking out the old copy. So, Martin Harrold, if you are reading this perhaps it ought to go ba...

High Street Vs. Back Street (Location, Location, Location)
Just thought I would ask other members how important they think location is. Like a lot of you we started at home then we moved to a small industrial unit on the edge of town. So our problem is we don't get passing trade and have to make the public aware of who, what, where etc. by various means. We...

Re: Photo collage - best approach ?
We were playing around with the CMC one day and came up with a mount design using the word FAMILY and found we could position photos of us all in the cut outs. Had it on display in the shop - no takers for this design so took it home. Mate of mine comes round couple of days before christmas with a h...

Re: Photo collage - best approach ?
IMHO. I think I might suggest to the customer a multi-aperture mount which you may need to cut with differing size/shape windows. With a bit of imagination you could get something looking really good providing some sort of symetry can be achieved so that it looks balanced. Photoshop Elements can be ...

Dare not try that in our shop. Martin (Wolfie) Adams (Winner, Runner up or semi finalist in last 4 British Darts Championships) lives close by. I could end up paying him!!

Re: How hard do you have to work?
In our workshop we hardly ever make more than one frame the same as the last as the majority of our work are individual pieces. This is where a great deal of time is lost as we are checking print/photo/whatever size getting various different mount boards from stock cutting one mount returning the mo...

Re: When are you closing for Christmas?
Just had the first of the New Year jobs go out!! Finished all the christmas stuff and got it out of the way so I got on with a couple of frames with fillet mounts (fairly expensive job). Rang the customer on the off chance they would like it before christmas and hey presto in they come and hand over...

Re: Hotpress-ing photos, advice please ?
We use the hotpress 2000 micron display board but weigh it down under the cutting mat after it comes out of the press to prevent curling. Ashworth & Thompson do a 1250 micron board with the same coatings at 87p a sheet as compared to £3.10 which is fine for stuff that is having a window mount an...

Re: When are you closing for Christmas?
The way things are going we will be here on Christmas day. Had father-in-law here today helping me get caught up. First thing I said this morning was no more work taken in for Xmas- went to pick up daughter from school - walked back in to shop to be greeted by "I have said we will add this moul...

How Often do you Resharpen your Morso Blades?
I rotate 3 sets of blades in our Morso but one set seems to last forever between regrinds. (actually I have 2 Morsos, hence my forum name, but one sits in a corner collecting dust). The current set in use which is the set fitted to the machine when bought in 2004 (manufactured 2003) have been in use...

Re: Is honesty the best policy ?
I think you may have answered your own question. If you are concerned about it enough to seek the opinion of your peers then it must worry you enough to deem it unacceptable. At the end of the day all you have lost is the moulding as you can use the rest of the components on a new frame made from so...
